    Default tips for access panels

I am mocking-up the interior of my 32' sailboat. I am looking for references, tips, or suggestions about techniques for cutting the access panels in the sole, settees, v-berth etc. I would also appreciate tips for building and attaching the cleats, and suggestions for hardware to keep the panel in place in vertical applications.
    Thanks

Use small sections of bronze angle below the sole so that the panels fit flush.....on the underside of the panel router out a small space for a flat metal plate....drill countersunk holes in the panel so as to flush fit 1/4 turn camlock fasteners....on the angle below the sole mount captive hardware....drop the panel in place, quarter turn with "T" handle...all is locked down.....hardware availablke from mcmaster-carr or several suppliers of aircraft parts...

Chuck's answer is the best one.

Under the seats and behind the seat backs I just have a cut out in the ply with rounded corners - about 2" radius - and a couple of slats behind the panel at top and bottom to stop it falling through, with a wooden turnbutton - the whole issue is invisible when the cushion is there.

The cabin sole is in 9 panels each of which lifts clear, rather than having access hatches.
