Default Wax on or wax off?

    Hello all,

As having owned only fiberglass boats up until this point in my life I am unsure if I am supposed to wax a painted plywood and epoxy boat's hull (Penobscot 14).

The hull is painted, but due to a few upcoming out of town weeks I won't be turning it over till mid July. I thought if the hull gets waxed now would be an easy time to do it.

So do tell, is it wax on or wax off?

    Thanks!
    Mike

if it's painted epoxy I would wax it.....mine izz Imron over the epoxy (actually the italian version of Imron) and it gets waxed but I only use the concours stuff 'cause I discovered that the turtle wax type stuff turns the off white/mild gray paint slightly like Ole Yeller....

    Thanks for your reply.

I used West System Epoxy, then Kirby's primer and then Kirby's paint. The paint is white.

Any sugestions for the type of wax to use?

Should I wax the varnished transom as well?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I moved this thread from "Misc. Boat Related" here to "Building & Repair" in the hopes of getting a couple more responses.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I'd be worried about getting all the wax off the next time I need to redo the paint. I personally would never wax anything I expected to refinish.

I use the concours d'elegance stuff for fine restored car finishes.....If I repaint every 7-8-9 years I let the yard do it......
