Classic Yacht Association Show Seattle

I'm moving a thread here. I had posted to People and Places but I think it will get more views in this section. The announcement is self explanatory. This event is well worth attending if you are in Seattle on Father's Day weekend; please look us up if you come down.

There will be on the order of 60 classic yachts at Bell Street Harbor
on the weekend of June 17-18. This event is expected to be the largest gathering of classic cruising powerboats in the USA. Most boats allow boarding during show hours. There is no admission charge for the event. Boats will range in size from thirty to 100 feet, and all are actively cruised, well maintained vessels. Most vessels are open to boarding with the owner's permission.
If you are in the Puget Sound area for the weekend, please come by and visit us on Rita, have a drink and try to overlook our glaring defects! As previously stated, you may board many of the Northwest's best known classic cruising power boats. Virtually every major designer and builder of yachts now plying the west coast will be represented by at least one well maintained vessel. More details here:

C'mon down Gary. Come by and intro yourself; come aboard for some R&R. We will not be aboard Saturday morning between 9 AM and 1 PM however, so try to plan a visit to take that into account. Otherwise, we should be there "interviewing" boarders!

Looks like I will be able to attend as well. I went to last year's Bell Harbor event - just what I needed to see to keep me working on my Monk.
Really a terrific show - nice people willing to talk with you about their boats -
I have no shame - I take pictures, make drawings about neat details, possible solutions to problems all the while pumping the owners for information on products, methods, and so forth. The CYA folks are justifiably proud of boats and all have been happy to share their knowledge.
It seems to me that a lot of the CYA members do a lot of their own work in restoration and maintenance of their boats - Lew probably has a fair idea whether or not that is accurate.
Anyway, its a great way to spend a morning or a day.

Bill, as you know these boats can be real undertakings, very labor intensive and big pulls to get in order.
People approach this thing individually depending on their level of skill, interest (hobby value I guess you'd say) and also as a function of budget. The more I am around the boats, the more I realize what a small world it is, how all of us old wooden boat people are connected, how it's a true community of distinctly different people. So, working on the boats, sharing the labor, and learning from others has become the best part of the deal. Having a great old boat to go down to the sea in is the icing.
People are in all stages of "restoration." But everyone of us has had to process what it is to involve ourselves with these things and in that there is big commonality. A very big undertaking that crosses over the line from hobby to way of life.
It should be a good show. Weather please be good! C'mon down!
