Thumbs up Maiden voyage "William & Anthony" (pictures)

It's a rainy, cold, overcast day here in Winthrop Mass. But last Monday, Memorial Day was sunny and bright for the initial cruise of my family boat building project, the"William & Anthony"
Tho boat will be formally christened on Fathers Day, June 18th.

This was to be a sneak trial run for my brother Steve and myself.

What a great feeling to finally get out and go for a row on a beautiful day in a boat that you built.

We took a short cruise around the harbor with "Rugs", the ever faithful cockerspaniel.

Now I'm looking forward to teaching my grand children and my loverly wife, Maryellen how to row.

From the photos, it is clear that the dog took the 4th shot...with a steady paw. Also, courageous head gear! Congradulations, its a head turner.

Looks like Rugs is in the catbird seat. Or is that the birddog seat?

By the way, like the boat, love the hats!

That could be a prettier boat, but I can't for the life of me think how! She looks absolutely great. Have fun rowing this summer.

Default It doesn't get much better!

It doesn't get much better than this other than the fact that I need more rowing stations for my grand children and this boat will provide it.

I've been teaching them how to row in one of the Nutshells we previously built.
But we're running out of space! If Rugs ever has puppies we're doomed.

Like I said, it doesn't get any better than this!!!!!

    Just beautiful.
OS, I have a 14 year old daughter and just the other week an eminent NZ yachtsman asked after her. He wanted to know how she was because one year when we were away ( she was about 4) it was her rowing around the bay that prompted his grand daughter to get up the courage to learn to row herself.( she was 9 at the time, 19 now)
He always asks after her that reminds me of teaching them myself so well worth making kids row eh!

    Great looking boat!

By the way, is that the bay behind Shirley Point? I've got a some friends who live out that way. Nice little bay.

Smile Learning to row is like learning to ride a bike.

John B, learning to row is like learning to ride a bike. Once a child learns to row it gives them their first chance to explore on their own.
. . . . and teaching them is so satisfying, they're constantly challenging each other wanting to show me that they can do it better than the other one.

. . . . . or the first time they take the tiller.

Being just the start of summer, when they come over to visit the first
thing they ask is can we go in the boat? I have a spell over them!

Don O, yes, that is Point Shirley right behind us in the wherry photos. We're in the cove created by the boat launching parking lot and the Coughlin Park. It's a nice place to poke around in a small boat.

Quite elegantly beautiful! About rowing, I learned at about 9 in a heavy wooden clinker dinghy. In the Sea Scouts, we had to row round a little Island and return to the jetty and tie up with a bowline to get the badge, Still love rowing, the rythm and the swing of it, the introspection, like XC skiing and swimming. The regular clunk and creak and the pleasure of keeping a smooth boat speed.
