    Default Brilliant!!! Problem solved.

The Senate is going to send us each $100 because of the price of gas and we get to open the Alaskan refuge for oil.

Now there is some wise energy policy.

What is the budget surplus these days? Oh that's right! - we will borrow money to blackmail ourselves.

Good on them. The Senate are giving you your own money to give to the oil companies directly? That is blatant theft? ... and you will all be complicit in the theft?

Let me get this right ... the US Senate is giving $100 dollars to each registered car owner, 'you', to give to the oil companies? Make it $500, to help the struggling oil companies out of their melle. $100 is stingy.

I hope fuel doubles before the cheques arrive and many still wouldn't get what the US Administration is actually doing.

Think of how much we all would save if we payed our income tax directly to the oil companies and bypassed our subservient governments.

Then we wouldn't have to fool ourselves ... while the Chinese heavy user, the reason for the price hikes, so the pundits say, pays less than $2 per gallon.

"What price gouging by oil companies, we see no examples of price gouging. We have fully investigated the situation and the price increases are realistic ... or beyond our control," said our Prime Minister. I've seen the reports from the US, of what the unpresident has said.

Warren, Americans favorite holiday is Christmas where we have a special day of gigantic indulgence. The Santa figure is supported for as long as can be endured by the adolescent mind and then there is a lingering understanding that gifts can be a heavenly sort of thing and we can do with them as we wish.

Look at the disconnect between the weekly deductions from the American pay check and the adored tax return, as an example.
Look to dubbya's advice to go shopping on 9/12/01.
The Senate is tapping this American quality of heavenly benefaction. We'll love the $100.00, re-ellect them and we will gladly respond to the call for another tax break for the oil companies.

Thank you Warren, your support of the average US citizen is duly noted. Unfortunately, it shows your true colors, and they aren't 'red, white, and blue', but at least your honest.

On Tuesday, Bush suspended filling of the nation's emergency oil reserve, urged the waiver of clean air rules to ease local gas shortages and called for the repeal of $2 billion in tax breaks for profit-heavy oil companies.
Damn the luck... this little tid-bit failed to make the original post. Must have been a simple oversight, as to imply a biased summary of the article would imply political overtones...

Brian, it is not a matter of me wishing bad tidings on the US. You don't give me the impression that you understand how closely our ecomomy is linked to your economy, the two are inseperable. Your official interest rate determines our official interest rate. Our biggest corporations are also your biggest corporations, with a few exceptions and our corporations dictate to our government. Do yours?

When you guys get a head cold ... we over here get sprayed with your snot. Our fuel prices are totally linked to yours. We sit at 37% above your average fuel price. If you have an extra $100 dollars to spend, we have to find $137 before the exchange ... our government continually takes it doesn't give.

    I don't wish you $100 dollars worth of relief ... I wish you $500.

Red, white and blue? ... what colours do you think we are? ... desaturated yellows and reds?

You might find this thread is focused on Senate energy policy.
dubby's policy deserves very special attention, much of it can be found in children's books and the bible. Cheney is having the secret meetings that will save us all.

Cheney needs no special equipment at the secret meetings. "It's all good" when these boys sit down together.

ok,,the whole damn Congress AND the presdent need to be thrown out for these dumb ass resolutions. Suspending environmental controls is another method to slow down pollution controls in general.
Gasoline and oil are NOT going to become less expensive. Oil will NOT become more plentiful with increased consumption from China/India.
Suspending deposits into the strategic reserves will NOT help us when a REAL disruption occurs.
GWs gd saber rattling with Iran will increase prices more than any amount of oil out of Alaska,,new sources cannot keep up with consumptions. Get the f**** clue, an addict can never get enough.
Sure our efficiency in production $/barrell has improved in 30 yrs but it's going to have to improve even more. Look at what Japan is doing to prepare for the future. China has higher mpg standards for their cars than we do. GET A CLUE.

So what's the great solution? 1.8mpg increase for light trucks over five years after not changing them for ten.

GET A F**** CLUE YOU NIMRODS

Our national security is tied to our ability to respond to oil disruptions,,,handing people $100 when that will fill the tank of an F250 once while handing oil companies Billions and NOT starting real conservation strategies is F**** CRAZY.

Throw the whole damn lot of idiots out if these are the solutions

Pardon me,,I do not mean you guys are nimrods or without a clue,,I actually learn a lot from youall. It's the stuff in that news article and what the Repubs and yes, my democratic senator are saying that's pissing me off. They all act as though oil prices can be brought down,,like GW walking with Prince Abdullah a year ago,,gently chastizing him , "the prince knows how high prices are bad for the economy" and LYING TO YOU that Saudi Arabia can out produce demand. GET A CLUE

gman, it's just crazy. The adminstration proposes a 1.8mpg increase phased in over five years. This is pissing 1degree off of straight into the wind andsaying it's a solution. Then a little wiggle with all the other solutions.
If those car bombs in Saudi Arabia that went to the large refinery actually made it to their targets folks will understand what a dumb-ass experiment the invasion into Iraq was for hoped for attack on terrorism,,,while providing that training ground for it right above Saudi Arabia. Those bases in Iraq are going to be a lot more expensive than containing Saddam.

the truth is,,I think,,that DC simply doesnt know what to do,or if they do know,,they know that the American people wouldnt except that solution. Its kinda scarey when you think your Govt doesnt know the answer.

Would I be too far off the wall by saying that its possible in our efforts to make advance the world,as humans, make the world smaller with planes,,and all the techy stuff we invent,,that we have actually doomed it?

Get this, while democrats are afraid of allying with a core group of environmentalists within their ranks who advocate conservation and technological innovation they're doing the same "it's Big Oils fault" dance. Big Oil doesn't determine the demand, Big Oil doesn't determine where the oil exists. But Big Oil does have advocates in gov't for finding more oil.

We should be starting at least an Apollo sized project, I don't like the Manhatten Project analogy but the size wouldn't be a bad idea, for transitioning through increased competition for oil and utilizing coal WITHOUT increasing pollution. Finding new ways to burn the candle at both ends is an addicts solution.

New electric appliances should have smart energy savings designs, all those little plug in transformers should have auto-disconnects when not in use, or hibernation modes when the power grid is overtaxed. Investment in energy saving for new infrastructure has to be implemented NOW. New cars are new infrastructure. A vehicle built for sale is built for fuel prices NOW,,not fuel prices for the life of the vehicle.

Making tax credits for hybrids that get 30mpg is stupid if the goal truly is fuel savings. Real fuel savings will come from simple construction and light vehicles with small engines with hybrids appropriate for applications where the technology is most applicable.
Anywho,,throw the bums out. Except that right wing technocrat anti-abortion Congressman Rosco Bartlett. He appears to be the only politician trying to educate his fellow politicians on the issue of Peak Oil

Yep,,I have those transformers all over the place,,in here in the computer room is the main area.2 computers with gadgits plugged in all the time sucking juice and money out of my pocket..Your right there. Then when the electric bill comes I fuss because I cant imagine where I used all that juice. Not to mention we usually have 2 or 3 tv's going all the time when we're here,,so we can walk through the house and not miss a second of what ever we're watching. We are our own worst enemies sometimes.

I bet the landfill is full of transformers for all the toys that don't work, portable phones and old computers, charging units for battery powered devices.

ok,,on the desk there's a transformer with a broken wire for the photo printer, the desk has four transformers for I don't know what in a drawer, on the powerstrip under the desk are five for misc. portable items,,,in the garage there's dozens to VHF radios, portable flashlights, chargers, etc....etc...
I would think a solid state charger would work without running current through a transformer.

Do the smart chargers, like DeWalt cordless tool chargers use current when there is no battery in them? My DeWalt charger weighs next to nothing compared with older chargers that are essentially transformers. I dunno.

TTBOMR, "wall wart" transformers don't draw power when not being used.

LeeG mentioned "peak oil". Looks like a lot more educating about it is starting. It showed up on Fox - which many people watch.

BTW I have a box full of working but unlabeled adapter transformers of all sorts of sizes and voltages.

The news story we got up here with the 100 rebate idea was that Washington preachers are praying publicly for the Lord to lower the price of gas.

Peter, have you seen the estimates for the water and tailing ponds required for oil production from tar sands?
