Unhappy Painting over old hull paint TBT

We have a cold molded Colin Archer 32 foot that we have just hauled and need to put some new bottom paint on. It has a number of layers of TBT (or so we were told by the prior owners) and have begun stripping it off. The job is big and we think we are nearly down to the barrier coat.
Big question: Are we able to paint over the tin based paint with an ablative without creating problems? Should we continue to take all the tin off? Any other ideas? Thanks to all in advance.

You may not want to hear this, but merchant ships are obliged by law to strip all the TBT in dry dock, blasting back to bare metal, with the residues collected and removed, then start again.

I don't know if this applies to boats. But certainly it is a good idea to get it all off.

We do understand the importance of getting off the tin, and have thus proceeded in this way. Only that there maybe some left, simply tough to get it all. Just heard about Interlux micron 55 that can be put over some tin?
