I was happy to rediscover the Cape Cod writer George Foy who in the mid eighties produced three terrific sea stories:

Asia Rip - set on Cape Cod; fisherman overcomes nasties.

Coaster - set mostly around southern England, educated child of privelege who became a coaster captain rather than a banker overcomes evil business people.

Challanger - Maine NA and boatbuilder overcome murder of NA cousin and partner in America's Cup quest.

And everyone finds true love after some loss.

Guess I'll have to put those on my "to read" list. Boy that thing is getting longer by the day.

Would also suggest "The Nagle Journal" - chronicling the story of a Revolutionary War fighter from Pennsylvania who goes into privateering. He's caught by the British, and after a few engagements between the English and French in the Caribbean ends up in London in the British Navy. After a good bit of sailing around all over tthe place, he's selected to crew on one of the ships heading off to found the Austalian colony. Eventually he gets back to relatives in Ohio, and petitions Congress for (and gets) a pension as a Revolutionary War veteran. The kicker is that the University of Illinois purchased the journal relatively recently, researched it, and determined that it is authentic.
