Line Honors go to HUNTERS CHILD II sailed by Steve Pettingill and Warren Luhrs with an elapsed time of 6 days and 16 hours and 55 mins. HUNTERS CHILD was closely followed by BRAVADO and SEA FEVER. Several others are due to finish today in the SE wind and sunny conditions.

Yup- great boats- I was disappointed at the pricing though considering Hunter generally puts out a very competitive product. After all, there's not much in one in terms of joinery, etc!

I think from one of M's previous posts, you're paying for a lot of technology. It's sounds like this boat is pretty computerized, radar-ized, GPS-ized and hydraulic-ized.

As for looks, I'm sure that when they get the stern put on, it will look much better

Years ago I owned an old Hunter and many of my friends are current Hunter owners, so I don't like being to critical their boats. It is my experience that they build a pretty good boat for the money and its intended purpose. My complaint is that they build what are probably the UGLIEST sailboats I've ever seen, expecially the newer ones. It isn't that much more expensive to build a pretty boat than an ugly one, so why build an ugly one. I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but how many times do you see a Hunter owner take an unneeded lap around his anchored boat as he rows to shore, just to admire it.

I suspect Hunter, just like any other company, is driven by market forces. They design and build a product that they think their customers will buy. If people are buying, they must be meeting a demand.

It looks to me, based on the pic of this boat, like Hunter is servicing a crowd who would like to do the Around the World race at least in their fantasies. A fantasy that presumably the crowd can indulge.

BTW, where's the backstay?

The lack of a backstay is something I've complained about (not that they listen or take me seriously). But between no backstay and rod rigging for the shrouds, there is absolutely and positively no place on the whole damn boat to scratch your back.

How did your prank about the varnishing on that boat go? That was the boat you varnished in places not usually varnished isn't it?

That's the boat. It's also sporting a dash or two of CPES he doesn't know about.

The boat's not due back here until next month, so I've not talked to anyone, but someone got the point across about putting II behind Hunter's Child to differentiate this one from the original.
