The Adirondack guide boat as built by Steve Kaulback.

This was not a boat, but rather a work of art. I spent a few minutes watching him strip and would love to spend an afternoon just watching him work. A man could learn a lot in a single afternood watching him.

    Thumbs up

"It's frustrating. They'll come out of there with a headache and almost a sense of expected mediocrity," said Kaulback, out in the lobby. "Then they see these boats."

Nice post Chad. Wooden boats of any kind at the big winter boatshow in Cleveland gets smaller every year but, guys like that make it worth while.

That's the nice thing about the Maine Boatbuilders Show . Nary a whiff of styrene and many, many handmade boats. Steve's been a regular in the past.

Steve provided me with a welcome diversion. If you didn't know, I was in Atlanta for a another cheerleading compitition where the number of cheerleaders numbered in the thousands. The number I heard was 8,000 plus all the parents and other siblings.

So when John offered me a ticket to the boat show that was only a 20 minute walk away, I welcomed it with open arms. Although I didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted to it was a welcome relef.

You know if I was 15 again I would love to go to these cheerleading compititions, but at 39 it just ain't the same.

When you pass 50 you'll want to go again.
