Hi,
I'm looking at using paulownia as the stripping material for an kayak. I have been unable to find any suppliers of paulownia in Brisbane (Australia). Can anyone help with a supplier of this timber in the Brisbane area. There is a plantation at Nerang but they only supply China by the container load no exceptions.
Thank you for any assistance.
Cheers

Ron,

Aust Amateur Boat Builder magazine carried an ad for paulownia some time ago. Perhaps the current copy still lists it...if not perhaps give the mag a call.

Apparently Paulownia 'off the shelf' is a bit hit and miss for boatbuilding, so you have to source specific stuff.

The only company in AU I'm aware of that's actually producing boatbuilding p. is Highpoint Timbers in WA. I have no idea if anyone stocks it in Brisbane, but they have a freecall number (1 800 663663) so why not ask them

Anyone got any details on this wood? Is it good for boats. My brother investend in a few acres a couple of years ago as a tax dodge, err, money laundering, errr investment scheme. All legal at the time of course! I might have to go and depleat his assets

I think its in WA though. Damn.

Thank you for all the replies. I have contacted Highpoint Timbers and expect a fax from them on Monday. I will post the outcome.

I'd be interested to see how it works with cold moulding.
