WOW. when i get good at sailen I'm gonna build a cat. Those are gorgeous; are they glass?

Hi Gert, marine 3 ply. NRMA has 2 pack automotive poly on her faired with micro balloons. There is old marine poly on the 18ft cats, the paint is still very good. Kuching had her first start in 7 or 8 years last Sunday. Nothing broke.

oops must be a mistake.
I thought I might see fat gaff riggers with round wood masts stuck way up front and a barn door rudder hooked to the back and little cat eyes in the cabin top.

ps, I sailed a Class A boat in Class B, in the same race last year. It was a good day. We didn't know her Class when we sailed her. No one did.

I used to sail against a Tornado from Canberra back in about 1980. Any still on the lake? Mine (Tornado) is now at my cousin's place just down the road from you at the foot of Clyde Mountain - waiting for him to patch a 3' x 18" hole in one hull - inflicted by a dog which chewed it up.

My brother used to sail a wood cat like these....very lightly built. He spent as much time fixing the boat as sailing it. He ended up buying a Nacra F'glass cat.....tsk tsk, no soul.

A 16 ft Cobra Class Ian. The Cobras and Stingrays race together. Their Associations are allied. They share the same web site.

The Stingrays have a metal look. They are strong and light. They stall unless the wind's up, they don't manouver well in the starting box. Today's races were cancelled due to high winds. 25 kts and (dis)gusting.

Leigh, especially if your brother scored the boat second hand. There are so many hardware points.

In Canberra the winds are too tame generally. In Woolongong on Lake Illawarra and Sydney, off Balmoral, the long reaches suit the boats. We are headed down ( ) to Woolongong then Sydney after that.

I think we are also going to enter the Serius Cup, off Balmoral in the New Year. It would be good to say hello, Tony H can't be left out. It would be good to meet.

Wild...Warren. What is the hull weight?

What is the beam?...and what is the max legal width for highway towing?..they look a bit beamy for the road....

Norske 3, The weight? I'll have to let you know for the Stingray, the Cobra is about 77-78 kgs rigged. The cats are moved on a dolly to launch. It takes 3 to take the boats off the trailor.

Oracle has picked up her act and she is sailing very agressively. They give me the idea that they, Oracle, would fight to the death. How about La Dephi, changing her policy? A good time to get it right.

Norske3, about the towing. The use of a slightly wide angle lens has made the boats look even wider. The chap in the photo, who also tows the boats .... is a policeman. Sgt Sobey. I'll measure the boats, and let you know. The Cobra is about 2mts.

ps, Or did you mean the (metal) beam ? as distinct from the highway's beam. The Cobra's beam then is about 1.5 mts. Between hull/deck centre lines it's about 1.75 mts .

Over all width..outside of hull to outside of hull.(highway width)...here in the state of Massachusetts,USA..the max allowed is 8 feet/or 8-6".

Oracle..maybe she has a hidden hydofoil that pops out of her keel.Ah...Thats all that "winged keel" was used by the Aussie...it lifts the hull up just slightly reducing wetted surface and a way you go...never thought it was fair to use..to my way of thinkin'
