Thompson Sea Coaster

How historically significant is this boat? I just noticed as the leaves have been falling and some shrubbery has been removed that there's one in the backyard of the house behind me. Is this one of the little runabouts that's worthy of time, effort, and money to bring back to life? All I know about her so far is the model name and that she was last in the water 6 years ago.

Hey Lisa,

If you go to yachtworld.com and do a search for Thompson in the boats for sale section, you will hit about 87 boats, however the last boat listed is a real nice little wooden Thompson. Check it out and see what you think...

Lisa...they're fairly common 60's runabouts. You can buy them restored for $6-8,000.

Lisa.....The Sea Coaster was a 16 foot model very much like the Lyman that I'm restoring. Like Donn said they are fairly common. This beauty sold recently at the Antique Boat Center in Cincinnati,Ohio for a steal $4500. If you have never restored a wooden boat this would be a good model to start with. Lots of fun,a managable size and a good boat for fishin when you're done.

This boat has been in my family since it was new and I recently restored her. She's a very good bay boat, the deep V hull keeps her floating over the waves very nicely!

Yup, Thompson made a great boat. www.thompsondockside.com is the place to surf. The third annual Thompson Antique & Classic Boat Rally is taking place 8-9-10 Aug. 2003 at Marinette, Wisconsin. I am the founder and organiser.

Check for the serial number (on a small metal plate) AND also find the hull ID (stamped into the wood of the transom, inside the boat). Look for a rating capacity plate too, probably from the Outboard Boating Club (OBC) of America. This will help me tell you what year it is.
