Boat Haulers

I may have found a boat but if I go forward with it, I'll need it hauled down here. Could you all recommend some boat haulers? I did a search and couldn't find anything on it. I remember WB did an article on boat hauling but don't have it in front of me.

I'm wrestling with a tangent to this issue. I need to get a 28' x 8' x 9' 8500lb boat home from Virginia. Brownell wants $1400, regardless of schedule. cheapest other quote is $600, but you need a hoist at each end at $300 each for a grand total of $1200. While moaning about this to my father, he says "dummy, I've got that tractor out back just sitting there, and I used to be able to rent a flatbed for $40/day. even if that's gone up to $200/day, let's just go get it ourselves!"

and so the issue.... how best to support the boat on the flatbed trailer? first instinct is to build a cradle, no brainer. however, I've had three people tell me to use boatyard screw-jack supports, with the feet secured to the trailer bed. this is appealing because I'd need to buy my own yard supports anyway, and I'd rarely if ever have use for the cradle again.

Anyone ever seen this done? good idea or no? how do you secure the feet of the stands to the trailer bed?
