I am looking for plans to build my own kayak rudder. While kits may be easier, I would rather have a home-built rudder on my wooden kayak. I do have access to welders and materials. I'm thinking thin ga. stainless with nylon sheeve(s), laminated wood blade. Thanks.

Take a real good look at the "Seal Line" rudder system - for design inspiration if nothing else. If you like rudders, it's a big step above most of the other stuff that's out there.

I forgot who, but someone on www.kayakforum.com has built a nice wooden rudder. I believe the blade was wood and carved to an aerofoil shape, a shockcord was used to keep the blade down.
