A real shame they have all that oil. Without it they'd have nothing but their own fantasies.

What a bunch of fanatical idiots. Christianity had its iconoclasts, but at least they didn't have access to bulldozers.

A remarkable story. If half is correct, and I wager it's 90 percent, a tragedy on a par with the burning of the Alexandria library is afoot. Stories in buildings are very strong for those with an eye.

Madness, simple madness. One sees the Saudi ruling class as fairly erudite, but this is travesty. What's been lost?

I try to hope, but this story makes humans into monsters.

Listening to the radio the other day, I heard some reputable guy talking about the number of Saudis entering Iraq to be suicide bombers. I wished I could remember the figures but it was surprising.

I'm wondering when this country will be recognized for the real enemy that they are. Won't be too soon.

They can knock down everyone of their buildings as far as I'm concerned. Go back to tents. I'd like to see them quit blowing us up and we would treat the bastards as the threat they are.

Imagine the mind. Try, you'll be able if you try. First millenia buddhist monolithic scupture as dangerous. Not amazing sculpture, not fascinating history, IDOLATRY which needs to be destroyed.

These people are genuinely crazy. Until we recognize it we will be at a huge disadvantage.

It is their heritage to do with as they please. How are they any more idiots than we are, when we destroy and let be destroyed the last of our ancient forests, fertile farmlands turned into housing developments, and seas into sewers?

There might come a day when we have to requisition their oil fields for the sake of the rest of the world. But let's be honest about it. Don't tell em we're bringing democracy or any such crap, just tell em we need the stuff and can't trust them to provide it. Pay them the same or more than they're getting for it now, but do it more equitably - cut a royalty check to every male citizen, that oughtta cut down on the suicide bombings. Hell, if we're gonna be imperialists, we might as well do it right.

One suspects part of the problem over there is the royal family is getting about 99% of the oil largesse. That could change.

Excellent point. MEM is the justification in both instances.

Threat closes U.S. missions in Saudi Arabia

    Sunday, August 7, 2005; Posted: 11:41 a.m. EDT (15:41 GMT)
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) -- U.S. diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia will be closed Monday and Tuesday because of a threat against U.S. buildings, the U.S. Embassy said Sunday.
    http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/...eut/index.html

I'll bet we get worse information on the affairs and the crumbling of our association with Saudi Arabia in the months and years to come than we did in the lead up to dubbya's invasion.
One day we will wake to news that will sound just like when the Shah of Iran went down except more muffled.

I agree with Chris Coose, for once.
