Brigadier General sounds much more dignified than the Navy equivalent - Rear Admiral (Lower Half).

A friend refers to his wife as "The General". When I asked her about it, her reply was that "rookie troops need leadership". Their 45th anniversary is later this year (& I was at the wedding).
