    Default Svelte

The R boat “Pirate”, shown here at the CWB. I really wanted to credit the photographer, but couldn’t find it. If anyone knows, it would be nice to give them props.

On race days out here in a field of fairly usual looking modern race boats, it’s always easy to spot Pirate, mostly due to her looks, but also she is usually out front.

It looks awfully fragile to me.

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

The pirates almost 100 years old. Can't be too fragile
What's not on a boat costs nothing, weighs nothing, and can't break

Must have been sailed on flat water.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

She races a lot out here in the Sound. Not exactly an offshore crossing, but not always flat either. Wish I could get a picture of her pointing. She usually gets a few degrees on everyone. (An iphone camera just doesn’t do it.)

I've watched her sail in 4-5 ft waves - which isn't precisely flat. She definitely is wet though.

    Freakin' gorgeous boat.
