Default My last ferry commute from Alameda

This ride has been a wonderful way to get to Americas most beautiful city, San Francisco. No doubt I will miss this as well as the friends i made not only as a passenger but as crew aboard.

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

View from the workspace today off Montgomery street. Coit Tower, a symbol of San Francisco resilience and independence in background.

Not to be all cherry blossoms, walking over to the client site i witnessed a homeless man dropping a huge deuce right on the corner in the Financial district . A reminder some people really could give a sh!t about the city.

The establishment and social norms. Coit Tower is a monument representative of a firehose nozzle given to the city which was nearly burned down from the fire after the 1906 earthquake; a response to how much a rich benefactor's wife was a favorite of the firemen who had sexual liaisons with many in the city fire department as well as the miners in the gold country. It was those men who saved the city.

Nice view. Love the triangular building, foreground. Do you know when it was built?

When in the City, we enjoyed taking a ferry to Sausalito, sipping rare scotch at a bar, and having dinner at a place on the water with a view of downtown, then riding back at twilight, as the lights came on in the City.

In Auckland, several friends lived across the harbour in Devonport and would take the ferry and then ride bicycles or walk to work. There are lots of ferries, mostly quite small. My favorite was the SeaLink boat from Auckland to Tryphena on Great Barrier Island, where we camped, or in rainy weather stayed at a wee inn with a pub called The Currach, run by an Irish couple and a haunt for visiting Irish folk.

Wyoming is rather short on ferries, alas, although we do have ferrets.

Last night coming home on my last commute ferry run. I joined my friend the captain in the wheelhouse who I went to ferry boat school whose last day on this run was today too. I got the chance to steer and land the boat into Harbor Bay for my final time.

I drove through the anchorage after passing the Bravo tower of the Oakland Bay Bridge to Harbor bay - Alameda. A huge spouting humpback whale remained in the 1:30 position as we speed making 34 knots.

I am going to miss this. There was a little sadness leaving my route; my way of work and life here.

You said goodbye to a dear old friend. That's tough.

Your captain friend said goodbye to his mistress. Buy him a beer.

    Or 10.

I'm sure he'll return the favor. I always left captains or crew behind with my old boat. I ended up drinking alone, if I ended up drinking a toast to a time well had.

My daughter rode that ferry years ago. She worked on Beale St. Not the one in Memphis.
