    Default Voting age

"Alarmed over young people increasingly proving to be a force for Democrats at the ballot box, Republican lawmakers in a number of states have been trying to enact new obstacles to voting for college students."

They are fighting a losing battle. It isn't an age thing - it's generational. The young ones coming up see through the lies and that isn't going to change in two years.

Lets start a a base level... What makes you think they are capable of making choices for the future?

Nationwide, 77 percent of youth between the ages of 17 and 24 cannot qualify for military service, an increase from 2017's already-troubling ineligibility rate of 71 percent. Jan 24, 2023

The ability to vote is set and predicated on the ability to be mentally and physically fit in their prime. If they do not take care of themselves, can we expect them to vote their interests or be counted when the time requires them to stand up for their rights?

I know it sounds unfair but democratic rule is not based on fairness but the willingness of the interested be counted; and counted upon when time.

My 25 year old daughter has voted in 7 years worth of local and national elections and never asks for my guidance unless it’s a local election where she is unfamiliar with the candidates positions. Guess how she votes ?

I am in agreement that the age decided for induction in the armed forces, whether conscripted or not is the correct age for voting.
This was made evident during the Vietnam war when children unable to legally vote could be conscripted and used as cannon fodder.

Eh? The right to vote has nothing whatsoever to do with physical fitness. A mentally competent quadriplegic has every much as much right to vote as you do.

The right of a quadriplegic to vote is based on multitude of able bodied enforcing that right. Democracy is not a given, never has been. You and I have seen how it works in Central America first hand , Africa today, in the 60s in the South. Democracy works because the populous wills it to work. The fear of strength of the young is the hand that rocks the political cradle. Given the facts that most young people aren't going to show up to vote and they are lazier; unfit than ever - how much change do you think they can ask for?

I only point out that many people are lazy and won't show up to take care of themselves. They get the results they did not work for. It is a bitter note to those who are most affected.

I know that, it was a teasing moment, my apologies Ted.

Geez, Ted you're developing a bit of oldphart's syndrome - 'Kids today! Lazy, ignorant, and disrespectful; not like when I was young!'

Just the ones I talk with and work with. Admittedly, they are among the best, but it's what the teachers are telling me.

The young ones see how the internet is used and abused and they don't tend to respond to the same dog whistles as the parents. The race and gender taunts don't work on them. They tend to view themselves as part of something bigger, but they also see how hard they are working to pay for college.

If you're old enough to get shot, why not be old enough to vote?

I am turning that way. I should take the foot off these dark political pedals. I do hold out hope. I have seen people all over the world and in this country work hard for the right to vote, to gather or even for a free press.

I remember Santiago Chile in mist of protest in 1970 when I was a child or passing through Alabama among the civil rights buses where cops stopped us because we had new jersey licence plates or my own personal experiences watching people get rounded up for questioning and beaten by the government in Panama because they watched The Sound of Music; these experiences set me straight on how things are. I will never take these things for granted.

It seems they are mostly trying to make it hard for the college educated ones to vote. They think those are most likely to vote the wrong way.

Seems like the 26th Amendment might be a probably for raising the voting age: The right of citizens of the United States, who are 18 years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age..

But with the current Supreme Court bench, who knows? Maybe they'll find some "originalist" interpretation that makes it meaningless.

Certain people have stated straight out that they love the uneducated.....
Places like, oh..... Say Florida, are trying to twist education in such a way that only certain halves of any given story are told.
Information is a dangerous thing in the hands of the wrong people, I've heard it said..... The truth is what you are told, not what you can see, hear, or feel.

Now, just sit back, and do as you're told, OK?

    Theoretically the same here.....

But few people start voting much below thirty and by sixty most will vote.
The idea that young people would actually vote in significant numbers terrifies conservatives.
I'd much rather lay in my bunk all freakin day lookin at Youtube videos .
