A federal judge has ruledthat Pence must testify to a grand jury about at a minimum any discussions with Trump which would reveal wrongdoing, though there may be som wee irrelevant bits of things which he's prevented from divulging under the Speech and Debate clause.

You're gonna have a bunch of violence . The Trumpists in and out of Congress don't care that he's crooked. It's a bonus, by now. That's what the thousands of insignificant lies wrought: there's no applicable moral compass anymore for Trumpists.

I like this one. The last sentence is particularly interesting.

    18 U.S. Code § 2383 - Rebellion or insurrection

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both;and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

likely right. But I've suspected that, perhaps, the Dems are running this on their own schedule.... to coincide with future events.

to wit, she's just been slapped by the current MAGA-friendly Twitter content review folks with a 7 day restriction on what her account's able to do. Because even Musk's Twitter thinks she's crossed lines re incitement, hatefulness, anti-trans, homophobic stuff etc.

It will only be worse if we wait. Those who will resort to violence are still a minority and I dearly pray the police and National Guard stand by the law and do their duty. This has been coming for a long time. It's time to get it over with.

Believe me, I don't like saying that.

I saw a bumper sticker today on a van. It was one of the old ones: "Trump - Make America Great Again!"

It made me want to get a sticker that says: "P. T. Barnum - There's a Sucker Born Every Minute!"

Do you consider the fact that the constitution gurantees a quick and expedient trial or are they just political prisoners?

In addition to guaranteeing the right to an attorney, the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees a criminal defendant the right to a speedy trial by an "impartial jury." This means that a criminal defendant must be brought to trial for his or her alleged crimes within a reasonably short time after arrest, and that before being convicted of most crimes, the defendant has a constitutional right to be tried by a jury, which must find the defendant guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt."

Are their trials taking longer than normal for similar accused crimes?

    Oh my!

REPORT: MELANIA TRUMP IS STILL PISSED ABOUT STORMY DANIELS, HAS NO SYMPATHY ABOUT TRUMP FACING PRISON TIME

Ivanka and Jared apparently won’t be “defending him” either.

    BY BESS LEVIN
    MARCH 27, 2023

One of the most obvious takeaways from Donald Trump’s time in the White House—in addition to the determination that (1) people working for him should have received hazard pay and (2) he should never be allowed within 10,000 feet of the place again, not even as a chaperone for a school trip—was that the then first lady, Melania Trump, absolutely despised him. And it appears those feelings have not changed in the two-plus years since the duo left Washington!

According to a new report, Melania remains “angry” at her husband over the alleged affair he had with porn star Stormy Daniels, which could result in his being indicted by the Manhattan district attorney’s office at some point in the near future, thanks to the hush money he paid to keep Daniels quiet in 2016. (Though the ex-president has denied sleeping with the adult-film star, he has admitted to the $130,000 deal brokered by his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen on the eve of the 2020 election, which Trump subsequently reimbursed Cohen for during his first year in office.) And while it doesn’t seem unreasonable for Melania to still be upset about her husband allegedly cheating on her—just months after she gave birth, according to Daniels—her negative feelings for him apparently run so deep that she doesn’t seem to give a f--k if he is criminally charged. The former first lady, a source familiar with the matter told People, “wants to ignore” the whole thing and “hopes it will pass,” but “doesn’t sympathize with Donald’s plight.”

Not only that, but, according to the same source, the former FLOTUS really wouldn’t be put out in the slightest if her spouse did time behind bars. “Melania loves the beautiful weather and resort town atmosphere of Palm Beach,” this person told reporter Linda Marx. “She is happy when she is in Palm Beach. She has her son and other close family members. They are tribe-like and usually stick together. Despite what happens to Donald, she will be fine. She is well taken care of.”

In related news, it appears that at least two other family members won’t be holding any press conferences to decry the potential charges or claim Trump is the victim of witch hunt. According to the New York Post, former senior presidential advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner “want nothing to do with this. They are staying away and don’t want to be hounded by reporters. I don’t think you will see them defending him—it will be no comment.” (In November, despite his reported begging, Ivanka declined to show up when her father announced his third bid for office, later saying in an official statement that she would not participate in his campaign.)

Obviously, this all stands in contrast to the online ravings of Donald Trump Jr., who seems prepared to chain himself to the door of the Manhattan DA’s office until prosecutors agree to leave his dad alone.

The koolaid is strong. Quoting the Constitution at us when these people did their best to attack Congress????? Roughly 1,000 cases takes some time. As far as I'm concerned, every one - whether they attacked a cop, broke windows, doors, etc. - is a terrorist & should be sent to Guantanamo where they can suffer what their fearless leaders (aka chickens****) think external terrorists should be subjected to.

I am sick & tired of Trump and his minions (McCarthy, Boebert, MTG, and everyone who would still vote for him) doing their damnedest to destroy our country. If you believe breaking the law is OK then move to Russia so you can kiss Putin's *** the way Trump does.

The same constitution which says that once convicted the orange piece of filth will be unable to hold any office anywhere after/ if he gets out of jail. Handy thing that constitution- you get to cherry pick the bits that fit your view- same as the bible. "Christian" trump supporters would have to be the lowest form of life in the republican sewer. Bring on the trials. If there's violence so be it. This has to be dealt with. And I hate to imagine the plight of Ukrainians right now and the risk of total catastrophe in Europe if the orange traitor was still in the white house. JayInOz

Only if he's convicted of 'rebellion or insurrection' (see the relevant statute above). Other crimes, alas, he's still eligible to run.

If they are convicted, they have had their day in court. Many of them pleaded guilty.

No argument. But you have to be officially convicted by a court to be barred from office.

I don't think it would be a good idea to use the detention facility and procedures at Guantanamo Bay as a precedent, to put it mildly. We want to preserve the rule of law, yes?

Supposedly the grand jury will be out of the next month so jurors can observe Christian/Jewish/Muslim holidays.
At least that is the excuse being given.

Who knows, eh? It's hardly standard for prosecutors to do rock-paper-scissors to decide who indicts first, but we don't live in ordinary times.
