New Zealand had some eugenics campaigners, such as Ettie Rout. Complex personality, for sure.

Quite a movement here in Oz as well especially Melbourne University.

As an intro. There’s a fair bit on the internet that comes up with a bit of a search. It’s a part of The ‘civilised’ west’s history that is brushed under the carpet but Hitler/Germany was not alone in the attitude but were the only nation to enact eugenics ideology…….. And it’s worth noting as an example of where atrocities are committed in the name of science.

If war is the answer........... it must be a profoundly stupid question.

After the tragic, statistical improbability of having four children with Tay-Sachs, a Jewish Rabbi came up with a plan. When born, children of Hassidim are genotyped and assigned and anonymized number. When their dating gets serious the young couple consult the central data base to find out if they are a good match or not. As a result, Tay-Sachs is becoming rarer.
    The irony is monumental.

My understanding is that the eugenics movement started in England, with Francis Galton, a cousin of Charles Darwin, who originated the term and wrote a book, Inquiries Into Human Fertlity and Its Development (1883). The eugenics movement spread from there to British colonies and also to Germany, where it was a key element of Nazi beliefs.

The Chinese and the Russians are already experimenting on modifying human embryos.

IIRC, A couple in England had a three parent child. The mother had a mitochondrial defect. Since the mitochondria are outside the nucleus, they got a donor egg, removed the nucleus, inserted the mother-to-be's nucleus, fertilized the egg, and implanted it in her uterus.
Also chimeras of human and other species cells are used in research in many labs.

Of our most widely revered ancestors, we can find error. Therefore, we should reject them entirely.

F ing stupid. My Grandpa built this, only answer is to burn it down.

The application of genetics to social policy is problematical. Perhaps the most fraught aspect is who decides what is good, and ought to be selected, and what is bad and should be eliminated. That seems subject to a whole range of bias and tribal affinity. Given our present definition of human rights and personal rights under the law, a social policy allegedly based on eugenics seems arbitrary, cruel, monstrous, and evil.
