An internet art friend provided a wonderful prompt to art from, and I attempted to render it with the old trusty digital colored pencil.
I still am not 100% sold on the digital arting, but it sure saves in colored pencil costs (art supplies ain’t cheap…) and sharpening, and the art takes up much less room when it’s all on some electronic thingy rather than piled in the corner.

    Anyway.

It's good Rob, it looks like a house I once rented near the Mont Ventoux, it has a Provencal vibe

It is a very nice art, Rob. I like it.

I did an art of sorts today with my camera.

you manage to draw pictures a body wishes it were relaxing in Rob.. nice.

and thanks for the birch in snow Canoez.. both are scarce on the ground here in TN.. but the two together are a good memory from my childhood.

meanwhile, I'm out tackling an invasive feral exotic some misguided soul planted.. autumn olive. shudder.. tastes good, but plant one and 5 years later they're everywhere. and unfortunately, somone planted a hundred - they'll *never be all gone.

    * yes, I know.

Thanks all. Figured I’d post something other than an opinion about something I don’t like. This was a fun drawing, and a welcome respite from the “Sportrait” I’ve been doing if my friend, who recently won yet another championship belt. I don’t even know how many belts she has, now, but she’s one of the best fighters in the world in her weight class.

It’s a bit of anxiety doing a likeness of a person you know and love. I mean, I don’t care if this tree thinks my drawing doesn’t look like it.

You'd think that one of the sports organizations would develop some irony and have suspenders for their top fighter. But nope.

So glad to see you're sharing something, Rob. And I envy anyone who can make something look even vaguely like whatever they intended.

This digital tool bothers me when it comes to textured color areas. For three days I've been thinking about how to get the flatness out of a background color I chose for a collage. I finally gave up and found a textured photograph and put it there instead of the bg color. It's better, but not quite right yet.

Please show more, man. We love it.

The only tool I used for this drawing is a size “5.7” colored pencil. I used 5.7 because the sizing slider is very sensitive and I couldn't get it at exactly 6.0. I don’t really know what the size means; I’m unsure if it is related to pixels, or if it’s simply an arbitrary scale.

The real advantage to working digitally, for me, is the unlimited (essentially) colors and quantities, and the lack of a need to sharpen the pencils. Well, and the lack of need for storage of analog artworks. There really isn’t any room in our home to hang more art (no, it isn’t all mine…), so analog pieces have to live in a pile somewhere with the rest of the u loved arts. The tops of books on the bookshelves is a popular destination.

I used the paintbrush tool a lot during boatober, but I don’t care for it. It doesn’t “feel” as much like painting as the pencil tool “feels” like colored pencils. The pencil tool blends almost exactly the way real colored pencils do, so it’s easy to mix colors on the “page”.

Which, I use a very simple “art” program that almost every digital artist I know or have met laughs at. Most people I know use ProTools, and I can’t figure it out; too many features and whatsits. The free version of Autodesk Sketchbook suits me well enough. It doesn’t have any real stuff, and has limited tools, but it has an unlimited color wheel, so I’m set.

I did just find a small set of unused Derwent pencils when I was cleaning up some mess, so I’ll likely do a series of analog drawings, again.

Of course, I’m Doodling constantly, but I don’t post those here, anymore. I don’t like to impose something like that on the place.

    Anywho…

If I’m not mistaken, Ashley has gotten to the point that she can theoretically wear a head-to-toe “robe” of championship belts, between Muay Thai and MMA.

Of course, things like the PanAm games give medals and trophies, not belts, and she has enough necklaces to do a good impression of circa 1985 Mr. T.

That’s very cool. Hehe. I’m glad the people who’ve met me know how silly I really am, and what a dreadful sense of humor I have, so they typically understand when I make dumb jokes.

We don’t have that snow stuff here. Well, I mean, it DID snow here this year, and the snow stayed overnight, but it ain’t like up the hill or in other latitudes. I think snow is beautiful, but I don’t own enough warm clothes to live in it. Haha.

This is the portrait, to date, by the by. I think I put it up somewhere else, here, but in my capriciousness may have deleted it; or it may be on page 373 by now.

Baseball season severely cuts into my “free” time, so I don’t always get to do the arts, lately. Couple that with my need to sometimes step away and consider what’s been done and what to do next, and arts have a tendency to languish. Languishing aside, a project like the portrait (I call it a Sportrait) will take 30-50 hours to complete.

Like making anything, sometimes “working on” something is just staring and “thinking”. I like to call it thinking so people don’t think I’m just blankly staring into the void.

Anyway. I’m happy, so far. I captured the likeness well, I think, right down the the little smirk. Lots of work to do, yet. Lots of blending and shading and just straight filling in color.

I did a drawing of Ash years ago, when I first got the stylus, in colored pencil. When I look back at it, I cringe. It was quite pedestrian, and more than a little rough. Of course, skills are like that; they improve with regular effort.

That's some nice arting, amish rob. Nice treeing and shrubbing.
There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.
