Default I spent the morning in the ER

My right leg, between the ankle and knee was red, a bit sore, and a bit itchy. I went to local imergicare who saw me quite quickly. That doc determined I had an internal infection and sent me, with a script, to the ER. I got IV anti-biotics and ultra sound of lower leg.

Just called me and said they found a small clot which is not blocking circulation, but to come to ER and pick up a new prescription.

Where's the bowl of cherries I used to hear about.

So, infection plus clot, or clot instead of infection?

Get well and take that clot seriously. They are no joke. I assume the new meds are to dissolve the clot?

Infection plus clot. Clot's not preventing any blood flow. But; precaution......

I'm on one and he wants to up the dosage. I'll call my cardiologist in am and see if any of this impacts upcoming stress test.

Sorry to hear of your troubles John.

If you are on regular anti-coags you should get set up to test at home for the proper dose. I'v been on warfarin for 30 years and now test weekly at home. Back before I started to self-test my dosage got way out of hand and I was peeing blood and crapping tar stools for a week. You want to avoid that sort of thing.

Terry L raises an excellent point, if you got a clot, while on an anticoagulant, that would suggest the need for a thorough work up. The three factors precipitating venous clots,Virchow's triad, are, stasis, injury to the lining of the vein, and increased coagulability of the blood. Once you get a clot, that portion of the vessel lining seems to be more prone to precipitating a new one.

Happy to hear that you got the medical advice you needed. No clot=no stroke.

Sounds like you are in good hands John. The old lady on duty at the museum here last Sunday was standing amongst the weeds in a flower bed out the front of the museum and saw a little eastern brown snake near her foot. Wasn't particularly concerned- she's seen snakes all her life. A few minutes later though she began to suddenly feel seriously unwell. Two visitors at the museum- one locked doors while the other applied a pressure bandage, then they rushed her to the hospital. Later transferred to the big one a couple of hours away and given anti venom. She only got the tiniest bit of venom in her foot, but if she'd been on her own she probably would have died. JayInOz

It was interesting. Doctor at the Imergicare sent the script to the hospital. Nurses got me prepped, and I went for ultra sound pretty quickly. Also got the IV pretty quickly. Then I was done.

John - make sure you got some folks around you within ear shot or quick drive. Let them know you are having a small medical issue and you would like to be able to call them if you need them.

take care brother. It is likely something simple to get through and you'll get better for it. Knowing you have folks on your ready will give you peace of mind.
Without friends none of this is possible.

I've got a daughter 5 minutes away, but doc didn't see this clot as any kind of immediate problem. I just called and left message for my cardiologist. Need to know if this will impact my upcoming stress test. And see if he's okay with the new medication.
