My car occasionally tells me that I'm not paying attention. I am assuming it monitors my steering wheel, but for the life of me (bad pun) I can't make it happen deliberately.

My ex-Brother-in-law got nailed twice for driving drunk. By the same cop, at the same corner, a week apart. He was thankfully a very careful drunk driver, but he did it for years. When he and my sis were roommates with me, I remember waking up to an ungodly smell in the hallway. He got so ****faced, he slipped and found himself laying on the floor, so he slept there. While sleeping, he **** himself.

man, that’s just unAmerican. It’s only 10,000 a year. What are the stats on drunk gun deaths? The bill calls for the Secretary of Transportation to issue a rule in 2024 requiring all new passenger cars to be equipped with technology that can “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired” and “prevent or limit motor vehicle operation if an impairment is detected.” Put simply, if someone has a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, he or she will not be able to start the car.
I repeat my high school essay. A car should know if the would be driver has a license. I doubt we had the technology back then, but we've had it since. If you don't have a valid license, you can't start the car. Is that not a good idea?

I'm eagerly awaiting the day when such capabilities are multi-phasic --

you're too stupid to drive
you're too unhinged to drive

Can you get the same restrictions for standing for congress or voting?
Been talk about this ever since the warning belts on seatbelts were installed. Nobody figured out a system that couldn't be defeated relatively easily. Another problem is falsely triggering it.
One of the youtube snow removal videos showed a couple front loaders going to clear out a parking lot mid morning and there was one lone car blocking things. So when they finally found the owner to move it she had to blow in a device to start it, and it wouldn’t let her. Oh well.
