    Default Adventuress top masts

She has her top masts back after a couple years absence. Anybody know the story? Is the CG now going to allow her to fly the top sails? (Sorry about the picture, I took it through the window ‘cause I was too lazy to get off my butt. )

As she operates as a Subchapter "T" vessel, she would NOT have been allowed to install the topmasts unless the stability calculations with such "top hamper" installed, meet the criteria. As for carrying additional gaff tops'l this also would have to be approved the same way. Typically with restrictions on sail combinations with POB, ie: daysails VS overnight, operating area that are considered for sail area allowed. This information is always stated clearly on COI.

If I read "Soundings" correctly, they re-did the stability calcs and will be able to fly the topsails. Hopefully we'll find put soon

As one of the few Maine schooners that have carried top masts in recent memory, I think she is spectacular!

Am I confused? I thought the thread title was a typo and meant to be "Adventure's top masts". I believe Adventure carried top masts in the last decades of the last century.

Thanks for the informed response. I hope I didn’t sound like I was blaming the CG for anything. I appreciate the CG keeping boating safe for all of us.

no problem at all, didn't take it as you were blaming anyone.

I have managed many yard periods, managed a few tall ships, and overseen the building of a new one, so pretty comfortable with the subchapter "T" process.

Oh! My bad. Still, any schooner with top masts is a lovely vessel wherever they may be.
