You and Leif beat me too it. The whole "pour fuel on top of the stove to pre-heat it" thing always made me nervous on a stationary rock or picnic table, hard to imagine doing it on a small boat.

what difference does the materials make? Each J boat is made out of different materials. Few if any remain as they were first built.

being the biggest at 143' and based on 1937 lines, she is quite a statement. She is a statement of power and wealth - the only factors that j boat owners want to see. a billionaire's race boat if ever there was one.

yeah - those black sails are sharp on her.

I was told by someone who really knows that boat - out of all the J Boats she is the stiffest and fastest going to weather.

Tom donated the boat to Cal Maritime last year. They in turn leased it to someone who is campaigning her this year (and the foreseeable future).

I can't imagine donating that boat away? Who is Tom? When was she built? I am very familiar with Cal Maritime - part of the California State University system which I worked for for 17 years (SFSU). Beautiful boat by the way.

Svea 123 was the best camping stove in the 70s(80s?)
Not only efficient but so beautiful, that women would come to look at it and enjoy it's warmth as well as it's efficient use of energy.
Mine grew legs in Europe somewhere in 1984, when I loaned it to my future inlaws...... They swear they never borrowed my stove, my back pack, my first aid kit, or my sleeping pad.... Yet they have pictures of the start of their trip with all of these items in the frame.....
European Hash was much better than home grown Vermont Weed in those days.

I don't know if any of the big J's were built of wood. Most built of bronze plate or steel, I think. Scrapped during WWII to build tanks, etc.

I thought Endeavour was the last surviving wooden J. The class page says she's steel and Shamrock is the last surviving wooden J.

Shamrock is wood. all the others, except Svea were "restored". The lead in the keel was used in WW II.
