Default Sometimes I feel like an alien, a New Yorker Living In SoCal

I had to go and check on a groomer out in Newport Beach after I was hungry so I decide to stop for a quick bite.

So Im at this fancy market in Newport getting a sandwich and this total Californian woman complete with the large felt hat ordering in front of me in a total Californian dialect gives the most detail requirements for her order, then orders a mocha chi latte with oat milk but not too hot but not cold. Reminds me of this.

Then I ordered my sandwich and and Ice tea and I ask for a straw and the counter girl pointed to a sign with a smirk that says "We re a straw less facility " 🙄 Im like how about the soy straws this place is TOTALY Californian - Soup of the day is KALE soup.

Lots of Kombucha being drunk here by Californian women in big felt hats and Lululemon leggings.

Hey but the sandwich was tasty

    .
What is with that place? Straws made of paper ARE available.

There is nothing wrong with lululemons on women.

Come to think of it - that would make a great review video for you to do. The unwrapping video of course for your "paid" Fan only page.

I will admit all of the women were extremely attractive, although I suspect most had a little work done, some more than others

What truly blew my mind and I came .....this close.... to pulling a Bronx Joe, they serve the Ice tea in a big arse single use plastic cup, and many of the salads and to go sandwiches were in single use plastic containers and the ONE large garbage can where paper, plastic and food all go in no separate recycling can - I came so damn close to pointing that hypocrisy out to the snide counter SoCal counter girl with the face full of pearcings wearing a hipster beanie cap INDOORS.

SoCal does have some lookers who really work to be "high value". It is like New York City on the upper East side on a warm spring day. If you have to ask how much would it take, you can't afford them or their lifestyle.

Nice to know you have yours already without the drama or headaches.

Save the planet! No straws. We really aren't clear on the concept, are we?

There are many biodegradable straws including paper, some material literally made from straw, and pasta.

I flashed on a memory of a movie called The Last Black Man In San Francisco. In it, a young man is visiting his totally gentrified (californicated) former black neighborhood.
The park where he used to play midnight basketball is full of Labradoodles!

Steel straws are not a good idea. Imagine what would happen to the roof of your mouth if you happened to fall while drinking through one.

^ Well, the women will still be biodegradable when their time comes. From what I've seen, I think some of them have already started to biodegrade. That first bit of surgery is one thing, but after a few they start to look unearthly.

The big push against straws came about when someone found sea turtles (maybe more than one) with a plastic straw stuck in its nose. It sounds like a case of one, but I have to admit it's a very good poster child for irresponsible behavior. We still buy paper straws for when my wife wants to feel decadent, although the local fast food places are still set up to give a plastic straw with every drink. Now that you mention it, I think I will need to change my behavior on that. There are better uses for the land than to use it as a receptacle for non-degradable rubbish.

The other question is, why does a he man need a straw to drink a beverage?

Actually, I tend to think that plastic surgery accelerates the biodegradation. When the war against wrinkles starts to look like a mask, it's time to stop.

Im that guy I never use a straw. Im like what the germs are gonna travel quicker from your lips than 1 inch from you lips.

Although this wasn’t the case unlike just having simple syrup they have a station with a bunch of sugar , stevia, sweetener substitutes all granular sweeteners that never quite melt into Ice Tea. So what you end up with is crunchy ice tea. Although if you had a straw you could bypass some of that sugar grit.

    I'm a complex man

The problem is the unsweetened Ice Tea. When you add sugar ( why don't all places just have simple syrup ? ) The sugar in the ice remains in its crunchy granular state and a straw can reduce some of the crunchy sugar. So for that one particular beverage I like a straw. FWIW I don't need a straw for a pint of beer, a glass of wine, water, or anything that you don't need to add sugar to a cold beverage or on the very few times I have a coke. When I used to go to Dunkin Donuts or a NYC Greek Diner and order an ice coffee regular ( meaning they put the cream & sugar, not sending you to a little crowded table to rip packets of sugar and they are out of 1/2&1/2 ) They used to put a little hot coffee in the cup add the sugar let it swirl and dissolve then add ice and the cold coffee, perfect every time without needing a straw.

    I hope that helps
