Cats do not kill billions of innocent song birds every year. That is pure rubbish. If you want to know who's killing the birds, look at Monsanto, Cargill, and Chevron. Look at plate glass windows and chemical/oil spills. Ever seen a cat kill a swan, or goose, or even a little crow? No, I know you haven't.
Sure cats kill birds. Especially if people put out cat feeders full of sunflower seeds and millet. Snakes kill birds. Birds kill birds. Birds kill snakes, cats, and other birds.
This supremely stupid cat phobia is absurd. If cats were such deadly predators, we wouldn't be here typing on keyboards.

Im left scratching my head at the lack of comprehension here. I think you are shooting first and asking questions after the shot. As clearly stated in previous posts the cat killing is in reference to Australia where cats are not native to the land! Go back and read the thread posts wit more of an eye for detail and you will understand ( I hope ) what is being said in reference to Australia where the de rail cat aspect of this discussion started. Doesn’t take much for a topic to go down the drain does it!

...And here we have it........ if my assumptions are correct regarding Lugs........ Mission accomplished. He has thrown the cat among the pidgions and now sits back and watches the outworking of his deliberately ambiguous intentions.

...and where Is Captain Lint coming from? Someones navel by the aroma of his comment. Is he serious or joking? Strange and stranger......

Cats, feral or not, aren't much better here in the USA.

The impact of free-ranging domestic cats on wildlife of the United States

    Abstract

Anthropogenic threats, such as collisions with man-made structures, vehicles, poisoning and predation by domestic pets, combine to kill billions of wildlife annually. Free-ranging domestic cats have been introduced globally and have contributed to multiple wildlife extinctions on islands. The magnitude of mortality they cause in mainland areas remains speculative, with large-scale estimates based on non-systematic analyses and little consideration of scientific data. Here we conduct a systematic review and quantitatively estimate mortality caused by cats in the United States. We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.3 - 4.0 billion birds and 6.3 - 22.3 billion mammals annually. Un-owned cats, as opposed to owned pets, cause the majority of this mortality. Our findings suggest that free-ranging cats cause substantially greater wildlife mortality than previously thought and are likely the single greatest source of anthropogenic mortality for US birds and mammals. Scientifically sound conservation and policy intervention is needed to reduce this impact.
