Default Future shakedown cruise for a Stambaugh Windward 24 build

Still working on completion of this Stambaugh Windward 24 design

and here, current status with son and co-builder Bob:

First splash is months away, but want to start thinking about a reasonable sequence of tests to conduct on her first cruise. Couldn't find any recommendations on the net. Any suggestions from those of you who have done this or thought of this before?

The masts are birdsmouth, and I will have made up all standing rigging with stainless and my own splicing. Finished sails to come from Tim Carlson.

Very cool boat - always loved Stambaugh's stuff.

If I were in your shoes, I would do a driveway sail first. Practice full set up and hoist of the sail plan, practice the reefing system, and even make a quick checklist of things to check once aboard, like drain plug and any thru-hulls, if any.

My usual advice is to try a new boat or rig in warm water and light breezes. Get a feel for the boat and work out any bugs before going far. I can't honestly say I've always followed that in practice, having bought boats far from home and cruising them back. In your case you can pick your weather, so I would try her out cautiously.
    Nice boat, keep us posted.
