    Default Biggest bulls*** aviation movies

We do seem to have an interest in aviation here. I got to thinking about airplane movies and how many of them are totally full of crap.
Watching John McClane ignite a trail of jet fuel with his Zippo thereby blowing up a 747 in "Diehard II" is one of the many BS items in it that leads me to nominate that movie. It's surely in the top 3. Was nice seeing the Tristar in there though. What movies do you all nominate for the Aviation BS Award?

We watched 'The Aviator' with Leonardo Whosis the other night. No idea how accurate it was re aviation. Comments?

“Flight” with Denzel Washington. Really? A drunk and coked out pilot pulled out of a dive at treetop level by inverting a commercial airliner?

The "Aviator" was not too bad. The H-1 was a real airplane and the one in the movie was a replica painstakenly built. It performed for othe movie but crashed on its way home, killing the owner/pilot. Will have to look at it again- I think the Sikorsky ( was it an S-38?) parts were real, to a point.

I liked Aviator, especially Cate Blanchett playing Katherine Hepburn.

The H1 in the movie was q 1/3rd model.

The exact replica that crashed was built in Oregon and went on the airshow circuit. it was on the way to Oregon from Oshkosh when it crashed in Yellowstone.

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

When my daughter in law went to work at Alaska Airlines headquarters, she and all the other new hires were shown a video about Alaska 261.

Alaska Airlines flight 261. Falsification of records. Management directed cost cutting? Nobody went to jail?

"Always"-not only the worst aviation movie but the worst movie about wildfires.

Also the worst movie about afterlife. But…but… Holly Hunter and Audrey Hepburn!

Flight of the Phoenix, either of them, although the 1965 has a great cast and is enjoyable.

Any of the multiple times in movies and tv in which a airliner drags a wingtip when crashing which, instead of grinding off, sends the whole plane into a cartwheel. Most crashes in general.

    Another replica, painstakingly built.

Hey, we are talking about a movie here. If you are concerned about ‘realism’, then you are missing the entire point of the medium.
    (just my opinion)
"Reason and facts are sacrificed to opinion and myth. Demonstrable falsehoods are circulated and recycled as fact. Narrow minded opinion refuses to be subjected to thought and analysis. Too many now subject events to a prefabricated set of interpretations, usually provided by a biased media source. The myth is more comfortable than the often difficult search for truth."

Anything that is mostly CGI is crap. Red Tails, FlyBoys, Pearl Harbour, Dunkirk... etc.

They just don't move across the screen realistically.

EZ Norman! I know they are not documentaries, I'm talking about non-comedy aviation movies with such glaring nonsense that you think to yourself, "wow, do they really expect me to believe that?" And unfortunately some people do.
