Two sisters, playing in a bedroom, find a loaded gun - 3 year old shoots and kills her 4 year sister - Google it in Houston (Harris County) Texas. I fail to see how anyone considers a loaded firearm as a toy .

in my local news this morning

Randall Berka II, 30, is accused of posting various written threats on a YouTube channel, the FBI said in a criminal complaint unsealed Friday in federal court in Flint.

According to the complaint, Berka — who lives with his parents in Sebewaing — said "biden deserves to die," a reference to President Joe Biden, and that he was "more than willing tot kill whitmer," a reference to Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Berka also wrote, "I'll kill anyone who tries to take my guns," according to the FBI.
    followed by this comment

Berka was involuntarily committed for mental health care in 2012 and declared incapacitated, which bars him from possessing guns or ammunition, the FBI said.

His mother purchased four firearms for him in the past year, but now believes he "should be arrested and put in prison," the FBI said in the complaint.

She "does not think the mental health treatment is working," the FBI said.

Children will play with anything they see their parents handling. That child is going to be damaged for the rest of her life.

Interesting point. My friends and I played with cap pistols, but our parents had no guns as far as we knew.

Latest installment of the gun blood tax paid…………….

Nice sentiment Jim, and I really do sympathise, but you and America lost that battle a long time ago. You are suck with a self-cull for the forseeable future I'd say.

I resided in Texas from 1982 to 1993 ; from 1967 to 1979, I instructed military personnel in firearms safety and proficiency. When my son was 5, he started displaying anger management issues - I therefore ensured that no firearms were ever present in our home. It is not that hard a thing to do, in my opinion.

Where I grew up it was fairly common for people to have a small collection of a few hunting guns but the idea they were for “home defense” wasn’t mentioned. Most of them poorly secured so us kids skimmed the ammo for stupid pyrotechnic games. My mom was clear she wanted no guns in the house and dad said that was fine by him as they were a tool he didn’t need or use although he grew up with them.

In Cleveland on Saturday a 7 year old was shot in the head inside his home. The shooting is still under investigation by CPD but they say it appears to have been self-inflicted. While covering the story at 4 this afternoon, a Cleveland TV news station offered a clip of an interview with a guy identified as "the lead fire instructor at The Parma Armory."

Mr. Obvious stated, "It always takes a person to put their finger on that trigger and consciously pull that trigger. I've never seen a firearm get up and move in my life. That's the one thing, it always has to be a person behind the firearm."

No sh!t, Sherlock! Too often the person behind the firearm is a child. I wanted to reach through the TV screen and bitch-slap the fool.
"They have a lot of stupid people that vote in their primaries. They really do. I'm not really supposed to say that but it's an obvious fact. But when stupid people vote, you know who they nominate? Other stupid people." -- James Carville on the plethora of low-quality GQP candidates in the mid-term election.

27 years ago today: a murderer killed 17 and wounded 15 more at Dunblane Primary School, Scotland.

The following year the Cullen Reports ultimately resulted in two amendments to the firearms acts, banning private ownership of all cartridge ammunition handguns in Great Britain.

And, it's worth pointing out, since the massacre and subsequent changes to the law, no mass shootings with handguns have occurred.

    Twenty-seven years.

I've liked guns since I was a teen and have three, a 38-40 Winchester 73 that my grandfather shot a bear with, a 30 cal M1 Carbine like the one I had in the US Army, and a 20 ga Browning BPS, because I didn't think my wife would like a 12 ga. They, along with their ammunition are securely locked in a steel gun cabinet and I'm the only one who knows where the keys are (the M1 has a trigger lock) because I know that my youngest daughter would not let my grandkids in the house unless the guns were secured. Keeping safe is not brain surgery.

Firearm-related injury recently surpassed motor vehicle crashes to become the leading cause of death among people 1 to 19 years old in the US, according to a 2022 paper published in The New England Journal of Medicine. In that, the US stands alone among world powers.
“In no other similarly large or wealthy country are firearm deaths in the top 4 causes of mortality let alone the number 1 cause of death among children,” a Kaiser Family Foundation study wrote last year.

Perhaps time to re-introduce bionic triggers ( with serious intentions ) ?

The toll is acceptable to a fair proportion of the voting public, for the gun manufacturers and the gun lobby, for the NRA and for the politicians.
    Good luck

Maybe not. A child that age barely remembers anything later. Unless people keep reminding her of it, it will become a dim memory at best.

But meanwhile, time to jail the parent responsible.

And now only the criminals have guns! Oh wait, Great Britain has one of the lowest rates of gun crimes in the world? How could that happen?

Are you telling us that when you get rid of the guns, gun crime actually goes down? But what about the "good guy with a gun"? Don't you need him?

With regard to the origin post, will the parents be charged and sent to prison for reckless endangerment etc. or will the judicial system deem them worthy of thoughts and prayers and they will not face charges? I guess I already know the answer.
Stay calm, be brave....wait for the signs. Possibly precariously prevaricating.

There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.
