    Default Lumber search

Hello to all from new a member and thanks in advance for any replies.
I'm fixing up Cimba, a John Alden design 762 Malibar Jr. Built Wing on Shing Shipyard and planked in Burmese Teak. She's been sleeping in my yard, dry and cozy for some years as I paid off familiy law atty's but I've been back at it consistently for over a year. I'm searching for a source for Kapur lumber (Dryobalauops) for frames, not sure of subspecies, that's found in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It's super straight grained, resists rot, great stuff for laminating frames and glues better than oak. I was able to source it from another boatbuilder years ago and got out a half dozen pairs of frames before my hiatus. Now I'm trying to find it here in North America or ship it here if at all possible, without buying a million dollars worth. Probably looking for 500 board feet to start. Is anyone in the community familiar with this material or have any leads. I've got patterns ready to go and I'm excited to start. Best wishes to all wood folks.
    Andy

May I suggest, if you are going to lam the frames, maybe you don’t need hardwood.
    Lammed AYC is quite strong.
is Kapur the one that smells like Lestoil?

Wikipedia says that this wood is from very old (250-1000 years) trees that are endangered and often harvested illegally.
I suggest that you find an alternative.
    Good luck.

This is a listing for the wood in India. I think it has a camphor scent when cut.
