Nice video, thanks! I've always been interested in Woodwind's construction from the bits and pieces you've shared around the forum. Cool to see a live view of what it's like down below.

Square strips edge-nailed and epoxy-glued, no 'glass sheathing. Looks pretty bullet-proof. I'd love to give it a try sometime, but your point is well-taken.

I regularly see classic plastic boats for sale in great shape for under 10 grand. Plus you get all the previous owners doo-dads and trinkets.

In order to build my own cruising boat, I'd have to be willing to wait a long time to sail her, work my ass off, and spend five times as much at least. Then accumulate all my own doo-dads and trinkets.

Bruce, have you had any trouble with worms down there?

No, every ting epoxificrated dung day . Worms are here but not on my boat. The occasional roach or mosquito.

So how do you store a boat inside and leave that mast up?

"got a lot of stuff we don't have". Ha. And people think our boat is basic. We did put in a fridge - but we don't have a powered windlass

We try to keep things as simple as possible also. Good philosophy.

One of my newer favorite words…”air draft”. Bottom of keel to truck of mast. My 46 foot air draft still has about ten feet of clearance inside of a BIG shed. We pay extra for it, but of course it’s a gift to the vessel.

Mark, We just bought our first deflatable with a five horse Tohotsu. We swapped Jan’s el Toro actually, still keep my Bequia two bow dingy. But it’s a big step up for us . Step up … god my brain cells just took a hit even saying that .

That's a tall shed. Cool that you can roll in the boat with the mast up and roll her out later

Air draft usually gets used as an indication to get under bridges , so more commonly is waterline to masthead, but the wonderful Woodwind floats so high who am I to get pedantic( or I could just be wrong)

Yes, travel lift or boat mover ( trailer) . It’s got giant doors like in King Kong. Don’t ask me why they built giant doors in the movie… let the monkey out to play?

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

I have to say the electronic charts for coastal navigation are amazing. They reduce the workload and increase situational awareness. I find they allow us to focus more time on the sailing part in skinny water.
We too have a 5hp Tohotsu (propane) and deflatible. The dingy was a hand me down gift from my parents and it was just the quickest way for us to get going. I do dream about that sweet nesting hard dingy that we can sail or row.

    Gee, I wonder why?

Are there any restrictions about tossing your sewage overboard in an anchorage?

Enjoyed the video. You and Jan have a great life going on there.

none that are enforced . No rules enforced for dumping diesel or motor oil overboard, burning plastic garbage, grinding boat bottoms, pitching any sort of plastic in the sea, driving with a cell phone, smokin ganja in public, speeding through the anchorage, ( the mortality rate for turtles and people here is very real),dui.

There are tiny molded 407 epoxy dams around the holes to divert rain that comes down the mizz mast. It were an elvislution
