Scott Adams who creates Dilbert said:

‘Dilbert’ creator Scott Adams suggests fans ‘get away from Black people’ in racist tirade during Black History Month

Scott Adams, the creator of the popular newspaper comic Dilbert, said “The best advice I can give to white people is get the hell away from Black people,” in a video message that’s being widely circulated online.

If you Google "Scott Adams black people" you will find it is in a whole lot of papers tonight. It appears he has a history of this sort of thing.

There are some reports that he blames being white for the loss of his TV show.

It's hard to enjoy his comics when you find out what he thinks.

It's sad that anyone is so unaware that they would react that way. To be fair he produces a mildly humorous comic strip so one should not expect him to be particularly clever intelectually.

I've said it before, but the imdb site has ruined my experience for some of my heroes. Walter Brennan is at the top of that list.

People are flawed, so I guess we just work to enjoy the cartoon and ignore the man. It isn't easy.

I think I know what you're trying to say, but I disagree. I think it's crucial to interpret a text--book, film, movie--with an understanding of where it came from. You don't support reprehensible behaviors from artists, but you can't ignore them either. I'd argue it's an act of racism to ignore what Adams said, and to pretend we can enjoy his comic without engaging with the foundation of racism he has revealed in his personal comments.

I didn't like the Gilbert cartoons at all. To me a good cartoon needs firstly a very good sketch/drawing, the best of them don't even need any text. To me the Gilbert ones are very poor in regard to drawing and same in regard of its texts.

Suppose, rather than writing a comic strip, he developed a pill that cures cancer and you have cancer. Do you decline the pill because the guy who made it is a racist?
"Banning books in spite of the 1st amendment, but refusing to regulate guns in spite of "well regulated militia' being in the 2nd amendment makes no sense. Can't think of anyone ever shot by a book

I'm not saying you "decline the pill," John--that would be NOT reading the strip.

What I'm saying is that, when we read the strip, we don't simply "enjoy" it while ignoring its creator's racism. But that we read it with an awareness of his racism, and interpret its meanings based on that awareness. An awareness not only of what the strip says, but what it chooses NOT to say, what issues it ignores.

That's why they say you should never meet your heroes.
There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.
