Default Poor Kyle Rittenhouse - will his troubles never end?

    Let's hope not.

Try not to toss your lunch when you read how he describes his actions.

Gaige Grosskreutz Sues Kyle Rittenhouse And Wisconsin Officials

The surviving man whom Kyle Rittenhouse shot during the 2020 Black Lives Matter riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin, is suing him and Wisconsin officials involved in handling the case.

Gaige Grosskreutz, the only survivor among three men whom the 17-year-old Rittenhouse shot, is seeking damages for “emotional distress, humiliation, loss of enjoyment of life, and other pain and suffering on all claims,” Fox News reported. Two others — Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber — were fatally shot by Rittenhouse during the Aug. 25, 2020, riot.

Grosskreutz accused the Kenosha Police Department and County Sheriff’s Department of refusing to view Rittenhouse, who carried an AR-15 style rifle at the riot, as a threat to safety.

“Astonishingly, the Kenosha Police Department, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, their supervising officials and police officers, and law enforcement officers from surrounding communities did not treat Defendant Rittenhouse or any of the other armed individuals patrolling the streets as a threat to the safety of themselves or the citizens they were sworn to protect,” the lawsuit reads. “Instead, the law enforcement Defendants deputized these armed individuals, conspired with them, and ratified their actions by letting them patrol the streets, armed with deadly weapons, to mete out justice as they saw fit.”

Rittenhouse said in a tweet posted late Tuesday that the lawsuit is an attempt to undermine an individual’s right to self-defense. He posted a link to his GiveSendGo account for users to donate funds to pay for his legal expenses.

“This lawsuit is an attempt to drown anyone who legally and justifiably defends there [sic] lives from attackers in a mountain of legal debt. We can not let them win. If they can come after me they will come after you,” he tweeted.

Rittenhouse was tried and acquitted of all five charges brought against him for the shooting, including first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree intentional homicide and use of a dangerous weapon, in his November 2021 trial.

Huber’s father filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Rittenhouse and Kenosha law enforcement. US District Judge Lynn Adelman dismissed motions on Feb. 2 from Rittenhouse’s legal team to block the suit, allowing it to proceed.

Rittenhouse has planned to take legal action against media figures, celebrities and organizations who publicly defamed him during and after his trial. He launched the Media Accountability Project in February to fundraise and bring forth legal action against these individuals and organizations.

He previously vowed to sue NBA star LeBron James over accusations of fake tears during his Nov. 10 testimony in court. President Joe Biden suggested that Rittenhouse was a “white supremacist” in a video accusing former President Donald Trump of not disavowing white supremacists in Sep. 2020. Democratic Missouri Rep. Cori Bush referred to his acquittal as “white supremacy in action.”

We can only hope his troubles will never end, the little sh!t got away with premeditated murder.
Maybe he will start throwing his weight around like OJ and get his comeuppance.

In the UK, the burden of proof in a civil case is lower than in a criminal trial. I hope that it is the same in the US.

So the guy that is a convicted felon that was not legally able to carry a gun that chased him down and pointed a gun at his head? Facts just don't matter to some people.
I would show a link to the list of charges brought against him and the convictions but I won't give those site more traffic, and the others won't publish what is a matter of record. Both sides do "have issues".
The guy was also convicted of punching his grandmother in the face. What a hero!

Remind us do, was this before or after Rittenhouse shot and killed two people?

Not legally able to carry a gun as a convicted felon?
    Really?
Grosskreutz, a paramedic from Milwaukee, had attended dozens of Black Lives Matter demonstrations that summer, acting as a medic and legal observer. He carried medical supplies, made livestreams of the events and wore a hat that read "paramedic."

Grosskreutz was also carrying his handgun holstered in the small of his back. His conceal-carry permit was expired at the time — which Grosskreutz said in testimony that he was unaware of that night.

In the US, the standard of proof in civil lawsuits is "preponderance of evidence", so yes. The [federal] jury instructions:

BURDEN OF PROOF – PREPONDERANCE OF EVIDENCE

In this civil case, the [Plaintiff/Defendant] has the burden of proving each essential element of his/her [claim/counterclaim] by a “preponderance of the evidence.” The party who has the burden must present the more convincing evidence.
To prove an element by a preponderance of the evidence simply means to prove that something is more likely than not.

In other words, in light of the evidence and the law, do you believe that each element of his/her [claim/counterclaim] is more likely true than not? If so, you should decide in favor of [Plaintiff/Defendant]. If not, or if the evidence is equally balanced, then [Plaintiff/Defendant] has not carried his or her burden of proof on that element.

Stated another way, a preponderance of the evidence means the greater weight of the evidence. It refers to the quality and persuasiveness of the evidence, not to the number of witnesses or documents. In determining whether a fact, claim or defense has been proven by a preponderance of the evidence, you may consider the relevant testimony of all witnesses, regardless of who may have called them, all the relevant exhibits received in evidence, regardless of who may have produces them, and any stipulations the parties may have entered into.

So why the poor misunderstood Rittenhouse and the misinformation about his victim, tenor of your post?

So poor little Kyle researched the guy's background before he shot him?

Further, the only "prior" that Gaige Grosskreutz has is a misdemeanor conviction for possession of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated.

    See https://www.snopes.com/news/2020/09/...ctims-records/

Also false was the assertion that all three of the teenager's victims were felons. Grosskreutz had not committed a felony crime, our analysis of court records showed.

He was, however, found guilty in 2016 of breaking Wisconsin's law governing the use of dangerous weapons — a misdemeanor offense — per Milwaukee County court records. He had apparently gone somewhere "armed while intoxicated," though the court records did not elaborate on what exactly had happened. Snopes requested a copy of the probable cause statement from county records administrators, but we have not yet obtained it.

Additionally, Grosskreutz at various points received tickets for minor offenses including disobeying police officers and making loud noises, the court records showed. However, no evidence showed he had indeed committed burglary, like supporters of the alleged killer claimed, though he had been arrested on suspicion of the crime in 2012. The felony charge was later dismissed, per Wisconsin Department of Justice's criminal data.

I doubt that Rittenhouse himself has initiated the several legal actions. It's more likely 2A organizations doing it and he's just signing on to whatever they tell him to. Nonetheless....

I am not saying poor little Rittenhouse, never have. But Grosskreutz (the drunk with a gun) is not a poor little victim.
I don't want ANY self appointed vigil-ante walking around with guns at any time. Why is that so hard to understand!

Grosskreutz only had his gun out because somebody else with a gun (rifle, in fact) had just let loose.

If you were carrying a weapon, and somebody started shooting near you, would you not unlimber your weapon? "Good guy with a gun" and all that?

In what way is Grosskreutz different than Kyle Rittenhouse, aside from motivation — Grosskreutz, unlike Rittenhouse, not being there there to keep the brown folk in their place.

Freedom to carry is freedom to carry regardless of motivation. Grosskreutz, at least had a CCW permit, even though he'd let it lapse. Meaning he'd had to take some classes, and pass a modicum of a background check at very least, which see https://www.doj.state.wi.us/sites/de...q%201-2018.pdf

Grosskreutz' failing is that he did not shoot Rittenhouse. One of the flaws in the "good guy with a gun" notion is the inbuilt assumption that J. Random Bozo is capable of killing another human being.

Expecting a normal human being, even one who is carrying a weapon voluntarily, to use it -- instinctively, at a moment's notice, and with effect -- in violence against another human being is doomed to failure.

The armies of the world are far too familiar with this.

The reluctance to kill another human being is deeply baked into the psyche of human beings (except the small minority of really defective human beings).

In WW2, only 15-20 percent of combat infantry fired their weapons in battle, or they intentionally fired low or high so as to avoid shooting someone.

In the US civil war, there have been thousands of muskets recovered loaded with multiple charges and balls, indicating that soldiers were intentionally going through the motions and simply not pulling the trigger.

Improvements in training, in the form of operant conditioning and other psychological techniques used to dehumanize the enemy, brought the "fire with intent" rate up to c. 55% in Korea, and > 90% in Vietnam.

First thing, I don't own a gun nor would I be carrying it in that situation, They both shouldn't been there in the first place. I know they both have their first and second amendments rights, but I hold them both accountable. Its like two motorcycle gangs going after each other, one side is not better than the other. I saw nobody trying to deescalate the situation.

As a Seattelite take a look around, we have not recovered from our riots. They have really hurt this place, crime is out of control, the homeless situation is out of control. The chop was lawlessness. Seattle is failing it's people.
Both side just keep pushing and pushing. But I still don't want armed vigil-antes patrolling the streets, on either side. We need to fund the police, get rid of the bad apples and most importantly stand by the firing of bad police officers so they just don't just get a job in the next city. We hired a large number of officers right after Katrina because they were cheap and assuming they were the officers that had walked off the job that night would have been "profiling". We need to be smarter than that and hold 'Everybody accountable for their actions'.
I will be getting off work tonight at 2:00 AM on the south side of Everett on hywy 99, it's scary and honestly I am scared. But not enough to carry a gun but I sure find it hard to justify it.

Good. Rittenhouse, the elf appointed vigil-ante should have been given his marching orders by the law enforcement officers. Rittenhouse unlawfully discharged a firearm[1] within the city limits, thus presenting an imminent danger to everyone near him.

It's been reported that Rittenhouse went on don jr's podcast and accused George Soros of bribing the prosecutors in his trial.

I go back and forth on this kid. He's despicable, but I also think there is merit to the argument that he never had a chance to become anything but despicable.

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the family of a 26-year-old man killed by Kyle Rittenhouse during tense protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020 can sue him and city officials for wrongful death, even though Rittenhouse was found not guilty of murder in a politically charged 2021 criminal trial.

There still may be a bit of justice coming.

have you seen the video of rittenhouse punching a girl in the back of the head?

if, on camera, after punching that girl in the back of the head, rittenhouse's life had ended by a bystander's bullet, well before the kenosha riots, i reckon you might comment as you did above, that the bystander "rid us all of a lowlife pos". there's your white-power-flashing hero, dead on the ground before he had a chance to do his service to society on the streets of kenosha.

if, on camera, after punching that girl in the back of the head, rittenhouse's life had ended by a bystander's bullet, well before the kenosha riots, i reckon you might comment as you did above, that the bystander "rid us all of a lowlife pos". there's your white-power-flashing hero, dead on the ground before he had a chance to do his service to society on the streets of kenosha.

you are a lost puppy, alan. and more than a little sick.

even snopes won't go all in with you on that one. i'm actually surprised they didn't confirm it.

I must have missed the memo. Remind me, when was it that we decided as a society to appoint a 17 year old to "rid" us at the end of a rifle of fellow citizens (low-lifes or otherwise) in the public sphere. Is this what we are "aiming" to return to, frontier justice? Maybe it's time to move.

we didn't appoint him to remove them. they made choices that got themselves removed. sorry, but not sad that a serial pedophile, another felon, and a guy pointing a gun at the kid got shot for their efforts. again, good riddance.

The 1st amendment does not cover the right to riot! Until people stop glorifying those who will burn down and destroy anything they can, policing will not change.
    It just justifies their tactics!

We have about 2 months until the next one, of course disguised as a may day protest, maybe it will rain, with a cold wind. Seems to be the best defense.

If you want police change solve, or at least work on these issues, on a national level.

Same choices as Trayvon Martin I guess.
Walking down the street is certainly reason enough to kill them
