Fleetwood Mac is over and done

    It's sad, but predictable.

Anyone who saw Mick Fleetwood perform at last night's Grammy Awards had to smile if only for a moment.

‘We are done!’ Mick Fleetwood says Fleetwood Mac is over

Mick Fleetwood has said that Fleetwood Mac is “done”.

The drummer attended the 65th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last night, confirming the news on the show’s red carpet.

He told reporters that he doesn’t see a future for the legendary band following the recent death of their keyboardist and songwriter Christine McVie.

“I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris,” Fleetwood admitted.

“I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”

Fleetwood also revealed that all the band members are focusing on other musical projects, adding: “They all get out and play, so I’m gonna be doing the same thing, finding people to play with.”

The rocker performed the Christine McVie-penned Fleetwood Mac classic Songbird with Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt during the In Memoriam segment of Sunday night’s Grammys.

Fleetwood Mac’s last world tour, An Evening with Fleetwood Mac, was in 2018 and 2019 and included two nights at London’s Wembley Stadium.

After Lindsey Buckingham left the band due to a fallout with members in early 2018, the tour line-up included Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie and John McVie.

They were joined by new recruits Neil Finn and Mike Campbell.

McVie’s last show was at the Peter Green Tribute Concert at the London Palladium in February 2020.

In November 2022, McVie died at the age of 79.

Her family has said in a statement on Facebook: “On behalf of Christine McVie’s family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine’s death.

“She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family... RIP Christine McVie.”

Since Fleetwood Mac came to prominence in London in 1967, the band has released 18 studio albums and sold more than 120 million records worldwide.

Their 1997 classic, Rumours, has sold more than 40 million units and continues to appear on charts worldwide.

Good. The last good albums they made were Rumours and Tusk.

So what, it's done. Except, it's not Learn to play and sing; then, play and sing. Like they did.

          Everyone will smile
          Happy all the while
          Now that we're one.
