Talk about packing the list of excuses, if you graded the driveway right, you wouldn't have to go pulling cars out of ditches. Maybe put a sturdy fence along the drive to keep the cars out of the ditch - you could get a PTO post hole borer for that...

And if people learned how to drive we'd never have accidents. 1) a dirt drive has to be crowned (higher in the center) to get water to run off & not wash it out 2) Packed down snow (you can't remove 100% when plowing or snowblowing) that gets rained on & then the temp drops below freezing creates slippery conditions that one might not notice at first 3) Someone who hasn't driven the road before might go too fast for a corner & slide off. 4) S*** happens. You've never had an accident or car problem?

Finally, a car sliding into a shallow ditch can be pulled out undamaged. One that's gone through or along a couple of posts will need thousands in body work. I know which I prefer.

But thanks for adding a post hole digger to the list.

The MF 165 is a great tractor. Friends had one that I maintained - they were 'gentleman farmers" - emphasis on the former. Nice cab on yours. Around here (dunno about where Paul is) 165s are not often on the market & command top dollar unless really beat up.

Yes, one can do a lot with a 2WD tractor, but a 4WD is a lot better for loader work & snowplowing. At my current place I have 1/2 paved drive & 1/2 gravel. Chains like the ones you run would destroy the pavement + there's the work of putting 'em on in the fall & taking 'em off in the spring.

Worked on a cattle ranch, 12,000 acres, with a fleet of old (50s and 60s) tractors for mowing, raking, and baling grass hay. They were made for long hours of steady-speed work and required quite a lot of maintenance in the off season. The ranch had a large machine shop and I helped to rebuild not only engines but also transmissions, PTOs, etc.



The guy who owned the ranch also had a mid-size Kubota for roadwork, mucking out corrals, maintaining the irrigation ditches and dams, hauling dead cows to the dump, and the various one-person chores. It was much easier to operate and more effective for varied tasks than the old chug-chug tractors.
