It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.

    More to the story.

Guy rescued had stolen the boat.

Was treated and released before anybody found out.

I believe he was captured ( re-captured? Rescued from freedom?)

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

Man wanted for leaving dead fish at The Goonies house rescued by coast guard

Police still looking for Jericho Labonte of British Columbia after he was released from hospital after ‘odd 48 hours’

A man saved by a US coast guard rescue swimmer at the mouth of the Columbia river as a massive wave rolled the yacht he was piloting on Friday was wanted for a bizarre incident in which police said he left a dead fish at the
Astoria, Oregon, home featured in the classic 1985 film, The Goonies.

Officers had been looking for the man since Wednesday, when an acquaintance alerted them to a video he posted on social media of himself leaving the fish at the house and then dancing around the property, said the Astoria police chief, Stacy Kelly.
Kelly identified the man as Jericho Labonte, 35, of Victoria, British Columbia. Labonte is also wanted in British Columbia on criminal harassment, mischief and failure to comply cases, Kelly said.

Are you trying to tell me you’ve never ignored outstanding warrants, snuck across the border, left dead fish on a pier, stole a power boat, rolled it, got rescued by a helicopter crew, posed for photos and then disappeared into the night?
Man, what kind of sheltered life have you been living?

Apparently this nutter has done some strange stuff in the past. Supposedly went missing for two months some years ago before resurfacing, or so I read on the internet.

    This from 2016
Police on Vancouver Island believe a missing man may be in the Kelowna area.
Jericho Labonte, 28, has been missing for over a month.
He was seen by a family member in a grocery store in Esquimalt on May 11. His parents reported him missing a few days later because they hadn’t heard from him.
“Normally he stays in contact with his parents by Facebook and text message…and they hadn’t heard from him at all,” said Bowen Osoko a spokesperson for the Victoria Police Department.
Osoko says the police department is “pretty sure” a man seen in Chilliwack on May 31 was Labonte. At that point, the man believed to be Labonte said he was headed to Kelowna.
The police department says it is out of character for Labonte to go missing and his family is concerned about him. Police are trying to confirm that he is safe.

    And this more recently
Labonte is wanted for charges of criminal harassment, mischief, and three counts of failure to comply. If you see Jericho Labonte, do not approach him and call 911.
If you have information about Jericho Labonte’s contact the VPD Report Desk at

That is a crazy video, especially when the rescue swimmer is engulfed by the huge wave that overturns the boat, and then continues his rescue. A brave man, whose bravery is countered by the reckless stupidity of the boat operator.

As much as I’d like him to be dropped back in the ocean maybe they could put a diaper on him and shackle him into the back of the helicopter for other rescues. Then sent to jail.
