Default Pastime (1886) arrives in Auckland

A South Island boat from 1886—surviving in moreorless original (1889) extended form, despite a ignominious period serving as a floating dining room moored outside a pub—Pastime has been restored to sailing condition by her original owner’s great-great-grandsons in a four-year restoration by Craig Wild. There’s more here (and in the video’s narration, linking to here).

There’s also an extended three-part history by Harold Kidd from 2019 in Boating NZ magazine:
    1. Southern Girl — Pastime
    2. Pastime meets Mascotte
    3. Rebuilding Pastime

I was talking about Rogue yesterday, how I would make a visit to the marina each time I visited Nelson through the 80's , 90's etc.
Pastime was another one I'd visit in either Lyttleton originally and once when she was in the pond at the pub. Made me sick.

Well, you know, John; now you don’t get around so much anymore, they’re coming closer to you.

Yes, so right , I'm just stuck in this little puddle here, 10 miles and yer there.....
Pastime is a look into another whole generation of boat despite the modifications over the years. Pre the new generation boats of the 1890's. I've always loved looking at her ,and what great job getting her up the coast in this seasons weather.

A couple of photos of Pastime at her new berth, courtesy of Andy Ball:

I’m curious about her 1887 and 1889 “lengthening” from her initial 28 feet to her eventual 42 feet. Harold explains that was done by clipper bow, six feet let in “amidships” and extended counter. Waterline down, though, I fancy I can see the form of a (if perhaps more anachronistically modern) original hull.

That’s quite an extension, I like her original form just as well (if not perhaps more-so...??):

She didn't do 8.5 knots like that though.
