A direct result of free market economic ideology - deregulation weakening checks and balances. Power/money corrupts and absolute power/money corrupts absolutely……a significant element stemming from Russian dirty money from the corruption that ballooned during and after the fall of the USSR. A big advantage of the aWestminster system was the relatively effective system of checks and balances, steadily weakened since the 1970’s.
This is where proponents of neo liberalism fail in their critical thinking, making the false assumption that people, individually and collectively will remain honest in the de regulated systems that follow from the implementation of their ideology. So profound this dynamic is that if remained unchecked, could well be the destruction of the quality of life gained form the previous centuries development.
