    Default E-sim

Has anyone used an e-sim for European travel?

I can get on the Orange website and order one for my iphone. But I’m not clear on whether to go ahead and get it now or wait until I land. It seems to say that it will connect to the first available network. I don’t want it to start service until we get there.

Or is it better to wait until I land London and buy a sim card at the airport. We will be in England and France for two weeks.

    Thanks

I have used Airalo eSim on my iPhone 12 in France. It worked well. My wife and I just purchased the data plans. We used WhatsApp and Skype to make calls as needed.

There are other vendors out there, but we only have the one experience with Airalo. We plan to use it again for an upcoming trip to Vietnam

    Orange is UK based....

UK is no longer part of Europe.

Once upon a time - when Britain was part of the EU - we could take our phones to the mainland and use them just like at home - 'cos the previously hated "Roaming Charges" were outlawed by the EU - nowadays the Brit phone companies are at liberty to charge whatever the fork they want if you make the mistake of using your phone while "Abroad".....

Some companies charge (lots) and some don't - choose your provider with care - possibly different ones for UK and EU use.

This is what they mean by "Brexit Benefit"

Isn’t the UK still part of Europe even though they aren’t a member of the European Union? They were part of Europe before there even was a European Union.

You could just switch to T-mobile. The plan we have gives us unlimited data and texting and 20¢ a minute calling in 215 countries. It’s working great here in Singapore. And it’s about half the price we were paying with AT&T.

    Geographically - true.
    Financially - not true.

It might be a smart move to try doing an online check to see how much the people at the airport charge and then compare with a high street alternative. Many of the supermarkets will sell a pay as you go SIM but it might get expensive in the EU,which would mean running out of credit quite a bit faster, but the same high street in France might also come to the rescue. With any luck you might find wall sockets with USB outlets in the places you stay as that can remove the need for adaptors for chargers in the UK and EU.
