I heard that he has been wrong over 60% of the time since this custom began.
Spring is a long way off for us.
Tomorrow's forecast is for -20F with 30mph winds.
Cold, but it's a dry cold.

I never understood groundhog day. The first day of Spring is March 20th. So you don't need a genius marmot to tell you on February 2nd that we are facing 6 more weeks of winter.

Like so many of our "days" it has deeper roots than a Bill Murray movie plot. This is the half way point between the winter solstice and spring equinox, depending on your religious bent it might also be known as "Candlemas" or "St Brigid's Day" going back further you'll find "Imbolc".

3/20 may be the equinox, but it sure ain't spring here in VT! At least another month - if not 2 - where we can get snow.

It does fall in sugaring season though - so that's a good thing.

Mother Earth doesn't care about your snowbank, she's just going to keep spinning around and hitting her marks caring not for the current dominant species.

It’s a good day to consider what, if any, “shopping” needs to be done for Valentines Day.

Rodent saw it's shadow in SE Wisconsin, and we performed the annual viewing of Groundhog Day. Tradition.

Our seasons all start on the first day of the month, as sensible seasons should. Too simple for you guys though. You just have to complicate things

Saw a great Johnathon Winters bit on a PBS Comedy review last evening wherein he speaks with the voice of the Groundhog. I forget his comment on the mud hole he lives in and his wife, but they were signature Winter's.

    Their Spring's gonna really suck.

According to a source in NS, it'd frozen to death. But those marine designers tend to tell tall tales...

But only about 3 weeks from then to meteorological spring. And, as I write, only 4 days to Pitchers and Catchers.

    Meteorological spring? What is that?

The explanation I heard is that if the groundhog sees its shadow, it is probably a bright, cold, sunny day - the kind the "polar vortex" produces. And if it is still that cold, chances are it is going to stay cold all the way to the equinox, at least.

But with global weirding going on, all bets are off.

I'll give you something that's a better predictor than a groundhog.
