That looks like winter all right. We have ice covered trees and shrubs here.

I can imagine my brother living in a place like that. Last I heard he was somewhere out in the desert.

It is such a solitary life. I can see why a person would want to live out here. The rhythms of nature and living by the way of the sun does have a draw. i can only hope your brother is happy in his choices.

The 8 days away. Mostly off electronics and back to a simple life going to sleep when it was dark and walking up with the sun. I made some great food and drank water from a Mount Tam spring (in Marin) which has an earthy woodsy taste.

this is the most clear headed i have been in years. I am ready to take on a new chapter where ever it is and what I do as i apply myself.

The outhouse/shooting range was 100 yards away from the cabin. One had to ready to have a shooting.

Yeah, I see that later in the thread you hit -19. That's getting there. Not quite the -60 I experienced in Fairbanks 25+ years ago one winter, but more like Wisconsin cold.

How come you didn't take your bike for this trip?

Winter in the desert. I miss it. Spent one winter (only one!) at Joshua Tree in the early 90s, back when it was a National Monument and pretty much shut down for the winter: no fees, no crowds, nothing.

That blue blue sky. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely photos Ted. The weather girl on our TV last night warned us to brace for the cold change hitting us from the south today. The top temperature will only be 26C- that's a tad under under 79F- brrrr JayInOz

Does your Nikon have film settings or is it just the base model?

I have to use nude silk stockings over the lenses. Does a nice job of making it look like tri-X.
