    Default Electrical help

In my basement theres a light switch at the top of the stairs, and a second switch at the outside door. Both control the ceiling lights. How can I add a third switch to control the same set of lights?

You need a 4 way switch. You can google the connection diagram.

It can be done. You simply add a 4-way light switch into the circuit. Googling 4 way light switch will show you the wiring diagram. If you don't understand the drawing, you should hire an electrician.

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Motion sensing lightbubs work pretty well. May work depending on what you need.

When I wired my house, code called for a switch at the top of the basement stairs, one at the bottom and one by the back door to control the basement (ground level) lights.
This was before the internet, and I was never so proud of myself when it worked on the first try.
Never once in 27 years have I used the switch at the bottom of the stairs.

    I love those things...
Some versions are Radar as opposed to infra red, and they come before you open the door! (see: Amazon)
