Locally our hazards are Deer, Squirrels and Wild Turkeys. Of course, if you stray near the shore the Lobsters may drag you in and eat you. They eat everything and each other.

Those are all mammals. No reptiles (alligators, crocs, large snakes) or fish (sharks) were listed. Alligators and sharks account for a person now and then in the U.S.

Large mostly-hairless primates are the really dangerous ones.

The big surprise to me is the high odds of being mauled by a brown bear in Europe. I didn't think there were enough of them left, even in the east.

I'm also surprised by the danger of black bears compared to brown bears.

It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

Lots more of them, and a lot nearer to where people usually hang out. Coyotes surprised me too; I've never heard of anyone attacked by a coyote. OTOH, the stats are for all injuries, not just fatal ones.

About the only thing to worry about around here. quite a few cottonmouths/water moccasins around but even if they killed you, they couldn't eat you. There have been some black bears reintroduced along the Mississippi River, but there is not much chance of running across one. If you were dead in a body of water, turtles would probably eat the soft parts after you rotted enough to soften up some.

The study is about starting to be eaten while still alive. Though I suppose some fungi can do that too.

Considering that we're all our own ecosystems of such things, it's rather mutual and ongoing I'd have thought.

Eventually, the wee things get us all, eh? They play the long game.

somebody cribbed the idea for this paper from a junior high science fair.

i read the abstract. the criteria, methodology, and stated purpose add up to not much of use.

One of "those" maps . NZ has been eaten entirely by a cartographer - one of the most dangerous species known to our nation.

My best chance to be killed and eaten near my home is from a black bear, followed by a cougar, which is an animal that Michigan DNR refuses to acknowledge as present in Northern Lower Michigan, even though there have been many sightings in the past several years…
