Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.
No… I suppose that makes sense, but a knife with removable blade(s) would be better.

what length blade do you recommend for griz?
i favor the 1.5" pen blade, myself. by the time you get your 3" drop point blade deployed, i've already stabbed him in the face several times.
all one should need is enough blade to sharpen their #2 pencil
perhaps the file would work

sure. you can fashion a deadly pencil from a twig.
And they still take some of them. I feel safer.

The Victoronix paring knives are good.
The Adventurer pocket knife is my favorite.

Leatherman makes a tool with a saw blade instead of a knife blade. I still don't think it could go on a plane. I have to remember to remove my folding bike tools before I take my messenger bag on planes. I don't know if it is legal or not, but I won't need it and don't want the bother or losing it.
I got one of these for Christmas, it's got a 2 in blade that comes deadly sharp. Made in the Czech rep. It doesn't fly.

I'm much easier to live with when I'm alone.
There are, or were, Swiss Army knives with so many attachments that it became difficult to find the blade, but the blade was always there.

This is the one...
I have several, with some stashed at my usual haunts

If it doesnt have a blade, is it still a knife?
The corkscrew is so you can fight your way back to your shotgun.

Swiza makes an interesting variant. I like it because the main blade locks open and you release it by pressing the shield. No financial interest, but nice stuff.

My mother-in-law used to carry a 2-inch long, itty-bitty screwdriver for her eyeglasses. She paid the TSA tax on it quite a few times, and got a lot of grief from TSA for it — because, you know, you could use it to attack somebody.
Pretty sure TSA wouldn't allow past security any of the vaguely pointy things to be found in your typical Swiss Army knife, even without the knife blades.

I prefer the corkscrew to the Phillips screwdriver. I find the small flat screwdriver on the tip of the can opener blade will work just about as well. It will even deal with #2 Robertson screws.
So I'm gathering none of you have ever pushed the cork in ?

A few years ago (well after 911) I forgot my swiss army knife was in my pocket and flew from Seattle to Europe. The US didn't find it but the Germans did.
When I was a kid in the mid 60s I flew to Mexico with my family. I might have been 12 or 13. They let me wander around by myself and so I bought a nice big switchblade knife, and hid it in my suitcase under some clothes. Customs didn't find it on the way back home, and my parents never knew.
More recently my friend drove all the way to Utah (from Seattle) to buy some switchblade knives. I guess they're legal there. He brought one back for me but I wasn't comfortable carrying it, too macho for my tastes.
I like a thin knife so the one I carry every day (can't bring myself to say EDC) has just a knife blade and bottle opener/screwdriver, plus toothpick & tweezers. Everything I need and nothing I don't need.
Simple possession of a "spring blade knife" like a switchblade or stiletto is worth a year in jail (and a hefty fine) here in Washington State.

Shoulda bought one of these when they first came out. Smith & Wesson® SWOTF9B Assist Opening OTF (smith-wesson.com) In Wisconsin with open and concealed carry. Toad stabbers get no respect.
Daily carry is a Kershaw Speedform II Knife 3550 (kershaw-knives.net) since I can't remember.
