Arriving at the hospital today for my volunteer shift, I am handed a notice that there is a credible threat going on. An "Individual" has been sending threatening emails and texts to staff and board members and the hospital and law enforcement are concerned. Security officers at every entrance and city cops on constant patrol around the hospital grounds.
So, I ask for more information.
Man, Woman? Tall, short? Ethic background? Threatening physical harm? How do we know this person if we see him/her?
"Oh, we can't tell you that because it might be a former patient and giving out the info would violate his/her rights."
WTF!!!!
At one point, I noticed a car idling outside the main entrance with no one in the car. This is always discouraged because it interrupts traffic flow, but today I saw it as a possible threat (who needs a car bomb to ruin their day?). I mention this to the brain-dead security officer on duty and he says, "oh, yeah, I'll check it out".
Luckily it was just some jerk who left his car running.
Anyway, it made for an interesting shift but pissed me off with the lack of info on the subject who was known to the hospital administration.
Thus endth today's rant.
