Default When political correctness goes too far

Arriving at the hospital today for my volunteer shift, I am handed a notice that there is a credible threat going on. An "Individual" has been sending threatening emails and texts to staff and board members and the hospital and law enforcement are concerned. Security officers at every entrance and city cops on constant patrol around the hospital grounds.
So, I ask for more information.
Man, Woman? Tall, short? Ethic background? Threatening physical harm? How do we know this person if we see him/her?
"Oh, we can't tell you that because it might be a former patient and giving out the info would violate his/her rights."
    WTF!!!!

At one point, I noticed a car idling outside the main entrance with no one in the car. This is always discouraged because it interrupts traffic flow, but today I saw it as a possible threat (who needs a car bomb to ruin their day?). I mention this to the brain-dead security officer on duty and he says, "oh, yeah, I'll check it out".
Luckily it was just some jerk who left his car running.

Anyway, it made for an interesting shift but pissed me off with the lack of info on the subject who was known to the hospital administration.

    Thus endth today's rant.

Not so much political correctness as law, a rather lawyer driven interpretation of privacy law at least. It's a profitable and common lawsuit.

Yep, right up there with naming someone an alleged perpetrator in a mass shooting when he lies dead by his own hand surrounded by bodies.

Are they implying a 'hippa violation'? Because it's not - they aren't talking names, individual identifiers. Gender, height/characteristics, gen'l age - all non-specific, would be allowed. Either your hospital doesn't know the law - or they're just plain lazy. Maybe they're too lazy to deserve your volunteer time.
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....

I'm thinking "hippa violation". The hippa laws were drilled into us during training but in this instance I didn't ask for a name, just a description.
It's an excellent mid-sized hospital that receives lots of awards but in this instance think they could be more forthcoming.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't surprise me at all. Common sense has left the building.

Can't blame that on the law.

If you want to see some hard-core political correctness in action . . .

head on over to the Ukraine thread.

Adherence there to the dominant pro-war narrative is strictly enforced.
