Default A breakthrough in colonoscopy prep?

There's a new regimen for colonoscopy prep, which appears to completely eliminate the need to drink any really foul-tasting liquids. It's called 'Sutab', and I think it comes from the company that makes 'SuPrep', which is the prep I used at my last colonoscopy 5 years ago.

This prep comes in the form of two containers containing 12 tablets each. You swallow 12 tablets along with a large quality of water, Gatorade, or any other clear liquid, the night before. Then, 5 hours before the procedure, you take another 12 tablets, along with the large quantity of liquid.

Assuming that this regimen does as good a job as the predecessor preps, this would make the whole procedure a lot easier. Since I'm due for my next colonoscopy shortly, I'll be asking the doctor about this.

Well, that's the issue. If it works as well as the disgusting stuff, I'd say this is a revolutionary breakthrough, for those of us (like myself) condemned to have frequent colonoscopies.

I used that for my last colonoscopy. They are rather large tablets and I have always had trouble swallowing large tablets, so I had to use even more water to get them all down. The doctor didn't complain, so I guess everything still came out OK.

Sounds great to me! I never liked the nasty SuPrep stuff. At least now the kids are grown and out of the house so I don't have to listen to them making bets on when I'll start the "run".

I'm not familiar with this - but I am hopeful! Have to ask, as I'm 'anticipating' my own 'breakthrough' soon.

Well, not having to drink that stuff would be an improvement, but you'll still have to sh!t out everything south of your esophagus; no help for that. Ah, well, at least watching the screen while they do it is surprisingly interesting; a part of yourself you don't often see.

    1) if there's a way around that awful tasting prep - I'm all for it.

    2) there's actually a fair part of the population enjoying an upclose view of their colon. Constantly.

My wife used something similar when she had the procedure done two years ago. She was very happy not to drink all that stuff. As we don’t do Gatorade we made a strained broth instead.

Being a certified pro at this, the prep seems to be changing all the time. The last one I had, the docs had me take a laxative first (just four small pills) which did the bulk of the work followed by gatorade tasting stuff. This was much easier, but the outcome was rather uncomfortable all the same.

    That's what I used.

The prep is still not what one would call a pleasant experience, but this is definitely an improvement.

The last "prep" for me consisted of large quantities of yellow Gatorade and OTC MiraLAX. Much less foul than the prescription stuff they made me drink 5 years previous.

I just had my latest Colonoscopy last month and did the Suprep routine - it seemed to do OK. I have never observed the procedure, either due to fatigue, or possibly, to the fact that I can fall asleep anywhere, any time [ but NOT while driving ] - This last time, they had to wake me up in the waiting area, as after, I donned the hospital supplied gown - I snoozed out on the gurney ! ! !

Having done it 4 or 5 times already, I much prefer a nice stiff dose of Propofol... no need to see what's in my colon, I've seen it before, and there will be still photos and a video, anyhow. I really love Propofol.. it's the best sleep I've ever experienced. I can easily see why Michael Jackson was addicted to the stuff

    I can hardly wait.
There is no rational, logical, or physical description of how free will could exist. It therefore makes no sense to praise or condemn anyone on the grounds they are a free willed self that made one choice but could have chosen something else. There is no evidence that such a situation is possible in our Universe. Demonstrate otherwise and I will be thrilled.

Yeah, when I did that prep I felt like I was going to "break through" my underwear.

An OTC was what they gave me last time, I recall using the whole container of powder. I don't remember if it was MiraLAX, but I'll definitely be telling the doc that I want the same thing in a few months. It was not bad at all.
