    Default Port Townsend Foundry

    Anyone been in contact with this foundry in the last 30-60 days?

    Do not respond to emails and they have a "call screener" on their phone number, with a full voice mail and nobody picks up.

    Are the out of business? Retired?

    Anyone heard any focastle talk?

    According to this, Leo is having them cast Tally Ho's chain plates.
    It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

    I agree response is slow for a small-time customer such as myself, I asked for an estimate on a stem-band two weeks ago and haven't heard. It could be they are prioritizing the big-ticket folks, but that is only a guess.

    I doubt they are "prioritizing big-ticket folks". I've talked to Pete at PTF on a few occasions. Never spent a dime with them (yet) but they have always been available. But it's a small place. My guess is that there is either a big job in the shop (e.g Tally Ho), they are on vacation, or some other factor is causing them to have a backlog of customers to respond to. Which is not untypical for small shops in the classic marine trades. I've waited weeks, even months on occasion, for someone to get back to me from some place. True, that is not great customer service, but then there are other virtues besides that one. Patience is (generally) rewarded.

    They were at the boat show this year and have a very high profile ad in the latest mag. Pete and Cathy run the show all by themselves, so I'm not surprised at the delay. They have social media presence on Facebook and likely others, you might ping them that way as well. And yeah, they are worth the wait.
