    Default WBF changes coming?

I pushed the black spot on some spam and got this reply from Scot.

    to me

Thanks for your heads-up note about spammers on the Forum. Unfortunately, your note went into my spam folder. And, perhaps because of that, you may not have received the auto-responder message:

Contact The WoodenBoat Store directly for any WoodenBoat Store business. Please use wbstore@woodenboat.com. For The WoodenBoat Forum, please use wbfadmin@woodenboat.com.

Earlier this month I was told by the new owners that my last day of employment at WB would be the end of January, as part of their effort to reduce expenses. I am taking the remaining weeks as vacation/personal time, and am not handling the WB Forum.I believe Matt Murphy, one of the new owners, is to be dealing with it until they decide how to proceed. It's new territory for them, as I have been the sole admin since I first set-up the WB Forum 28 years ago in 1995, with Hypermedia, our ISP in the then new world of internet.

So, if you would send these spammer reports to the wbfadmin@woodenboat.com that would be helpful

    Best,
    Scot

If they are letting Scot go to save money, I wonder if they will even keep the forum going. I got no response to the last times that I tried to report spammers.

    Well, fiddle!
If you are longer management and gateway, it may be a bit early to nominate you BROTM for February. In your official - unofficial capacity are they best of's you can share?

I doubt it drives business to the magazine. More likely the other way around.
Add blockers on computers probably make it unviable.

Any volunteers to take on the license if WB drop it?
I'm sure we could club together to buy the IP, it'd be the maintenance and moderation that would need time. (Which for some on this forum seems to not be that much of a problem.... fart).

YES, Scot IS the BROTM of February. I hope he will visit us in the forum from time to time.

Thank You, Scot, for so generously giving us the forum to meet and to create this WB/family and friendships spanning continents. We wish you well and much enjoyment and success on your next chapter.

Scot PM'd me with thanks for a black triangle alert at the back end of last year. I responded, quoting the rumor. Scot replied that he and the management has a chuckle about it.
Who was to know that it was prophetic.

I got the same exact email as the OP when I pressed the button on an ad post. I thought it was an actual email from Scot & replied to it - but got a "Please email WBFAdmin@" message back.

I got a similar email too and I think now that scot is no longer using his account scot@woodenboat.com and has probably set a automatic answer to any input.

If you do want to talk to Scot, it may be better to use his personal email or FB. I expect that he will be taking some accrued holidays, before he loses them.

    that is sad to hear

scot has been the face of woodenboat for me for many many years and a very friendly, kind, and generous one at that one to myself and to katherine and to many others
he's been a part of that organization in larger roles than the forum admin for a long time
its always awkward and uncomfortable to have such a career end not by one's own choice
hope that woodenboat treats him well and he lands on his feet where-ever and however he chooses to go forward

Another of my regular watering holes, the Trailer Sailer Forum, has undergone similar circumstances. The Owners had decided to end their ownership of the Forum at the end of 2022 and that the fellow employed as administrator it would leave. The Trailer Sailer Forum is presently undergoing a transfer to another server offered by a regular participant in the forum. Frankly, I value the WBF much more highly than TS due to the much wider range of participation and resources. I'll be seriously bummed if the WBF evaporates.

What "new owners", anyway? Don't all posters on the forum subscribe to the magazine? Very bad form if they don't, eh?

If you're a subscriber, you might have noticed that Matt Murphy (WB Editor) and Andrew Breece (WB Publisher) bought WoodenBoat about a year ago.

There have been structural and organizational changes at the magazine, the store, and the school over the past year or two. Some brought about by Covid, some by retirements, and some by the purchase.

Once again, gents (and the occasional person better described in the manner of their choice), it's been a great and enduring pleasure hanging out with you these many years. I count some of you among my best friends.

I hope that Scot's departure doesn't foretell the departure of the forum itself, but all things end someday. Until that day, know that you have my gratitude. As does Scot, and WoodenBoat.

Absolutely. Scot has run a great ship here, at the store, and at the publishing side.

Let's hope for the continued existence of this wonderful medium and that the changes in Brooklin are positive for all involved.

fondly i recall how i posted the g.o.t. cuntsplice video to katherine's thread complaining about cuntsplices. scot sent me a warning and took the youtube vid down. i missed the warning in the inbox and reposted the vid (i may have been drunk too soon), whereupon i had two months of posts deleted and was banned for two more. for the word "c--t". in a youtube video. a good lesson in the arbitrary and capricious nature of gawd. thanks scot.

    Best to you, Scot!

(BTW--Didnt his come up about a year ago? Frankly, I thought I remembered you announcing your departure publicly.)
